Citroen C3 - engine warning light in rain - elliesmithers

Hi all,

after 4 days in a wet field i drove my car and the engine warning light came on. at first it flashed, then it just stayed on and ran fine.I took it to kwik fit who said it misfired and the catalytic converter was damaged. they turned off the light and i drove it home in the dry with no problems and no warning lights coming on. It was then left for a day again in torrential rain, and the next morning same problem, but i didnt move the car at all. I took it to another garage who read it and the reader said it was either an air flow problem or injector problem.

My question is, has anyone ever had problems with citroen c3 engines in the rain/after rain, or is this just a coincidence?

Also the second garage said the catalytic converter problem was probably just temporary due to the misfire.

Any advice/experiences anyone could share would be appreciated!

Depending on the year of your car it may suffer from a fault known with earlier built C3's where rain water can seep through under the windscreen washer nozzells on the bonnet and drop onto an injector and the warning light comes on for a few days. It happens to my mother-in-law's C3. You can try to seal it someway, but I dont know the full fix.

Thanks for that, its 05 reg. I will look into it! Sounds like the crazy sort of thing that would cause a problem with my car.

well it rained pretty heavily last night and so far so good today... looks like you may have helped me crack it! £10 on sealant rather than £350 on a catalytic converter?... yes please! finger crossed for no more dreaded 'three beeps'

darn, spoke to soon! Another night of heavy rain, anothe three beeps of death in the morning :-/ engine was misfiring, however after about 5/10 minutes reving the engine etc it stopped misfiring, and i managed to drive it home, 20 miles down the motorway, with no problems. any suggestions please folks? it must be something to do with the rain. damp problem??

could it be that i got to sealing the leak too late and my injector or coil pack is damaged?
