There is rather a lot of conversational, "funny" stuff creeping in here.
Please cut back on it to avoid me having to delete it. Its beter in discussion if its needed anywhere.

Sorry, Mark, point taken. I've just left my final whimsy herein.
Can you leave it until Paul's seen it, I fear I offended him in the post you consigned to the bin.
As mentioned earlier, I'm easily confused............
fair enough. I'll leave it. But don't carry on the conversation there please. At least move it to discussion if it will carry on.

If people left their email on their profile then conversations could carry on away from public view.
Yes, used to do that elsewhere, until a weirdo started to send undesirable stuff. Pity.

You lot are turning into a site of fappin' Victor Meldrews. Get a life and a sense of humour.

This may have been suggested before, but why not put a chatroom on the site? There are so many users on this site that there are bound to be enough people to make use of it at peak times. It would cost nothing to implement either :)
Alternatively, to avoid cluttering up the Discussion forum, would an off-topic forum be a good idea? People could talk about whatever they want (Except illegal stuff or stuff which breaches the rules of course) On another forum I visit they have seperate forums for a few distinct areas of car-talk, and an off topic forum for the jokes and other general stuff that has no relation to cars. It works really well, the main sections are kept largely on topic by themselves. A side effect of this is that the forum no longer requires as much policing by the moderator (which of course has to be a good thing from his point of view), so things like Toad's home insurance thread don't have to be deleted. So what do you think Mark?
I think moderating discussion is a pain at the best of times and that's a forum with a theme. I cannot imagine the grief involved in moderating a chat forum but still keeping it to the rules of the site.
So, if anybody wants a chat forum or off-topic forum on here, they'll also be needing a new moderator.
Take it that's a NO then Mark !
I know what you mean, my point was that it could well reduce the amount of moderating that you have to do. As you shouldn't have to moderate off topic stuff in the discussion forum any longer, and the off topic part of the forum wouldn't require a lot of moderating except for the stuff which is illegal or grossly obscene.
But what did you think of the chat room though? That wouldn't need any moderating at all, except for the swear filter maybe...
Ooops, just noticed I guess by "chat forum" you're including a chat room in there as well? :)
The Chat Room idea would take much more time than I would be willing to give. Even for three ploughmans a year.
And they're prone to disasters.
However, if you are convinced you are very welcome to e-mail Martyn and suggest it. I am not sure he would like the idea any more than me, but you can always try.
