05 1.4 Removing oil filter cover - Northern Jeff
The plastic oil filter housing on my 1.4 petrol engined Berlingo is very tight. I'm loathe to use too much force undoing it with a socket on the end as I don't want to damage it. Is it stronger than it looks and feels)? Am I safe to use a strap type oil filter wrench around the outside or will this damage it? Any advice from anyone with one of these is much appreciated.

Not sure about the Berlingo, but I've changed the oil on a few cars with plastic housings for the oil filter and not broke one yet. As long as you use the right tool (usually one of the two special large sockets for these things, motorfactors have them) then it should be fine.

Use a rubber strap wrench.

I use one from the kitchen bought in Morrisons.. designed for undoing glass jar tops.

I use it on oil filters (and hastily clean it before I return it to the kitchen)
