My newly-acquired car has an Alpine stereo with auto-reverse tape and a CD changer, badged simply as 'Jaguar'. It seems to work ok but I don't have an instruction book for it. Does anyone know what model Alpine it might be, so I can try to find an instruction book download?

Although the set is manufactured by Alpine,I think you will find it is a specific model made for Jaguar only.May have more luck finding someone that is a specialist in older Jag models.

Is it a six-disc CD unit with a fingernail-breaking sliding access cover?
The Jaguar booklet is fairly basic. What do you need to know?

Yes, it is. And thanks - I've now got the Alpine instructions for the CD changer unit.
I seem to have worked out everything but how to manipulate the CD changer from the head unit, never having had a multiplayer before.

>I seem to have worked out everything but how to manipulate the CD changer from the head unit,
Sorry Mike, I overlooked replying to this.
Have you worked it out yet?

Hello again!
No I haven't - been sidetracked cutting grass etc until the heatwave got the better of me.
I got the car out again yesterday though and will be investigating later.
All I need to know really is how to find tracks, etc, with more than one CD loaded in the stacker.
Thanks for the continued interest...

If it is anything like the XK8 Alpine, buttons 1-6 select the disc and then use the forward / back button to select tracks. Mine has a steering wheek control to select next track.

Yup, same in the XJ.
You can also press MIX and it will play random tracks from the loaded CD. Press and hold MIX and it will play random tracks from random CDs.
If you have steering wheel controls you can pull the rear button towards you and it will skip to next track. Pull and hold and it will load the next CD.

Thanks very much - all useful advice that works.
I've resurrected the thread because I've been told I'll need a code for the head unit if I disconnect the battery. Needless to say, with all the history and literature I got with the car, there's no code and the original supplying dealer couldn't help.
Is this right. Will I have to find a specialist in the UK to re-code it?
|
If it's the original unit that was fitted to the car Jaguar will have a record of the code (or even if it's a replacement fitted by Jaguar).
Drop by any franchised Jag dealer with the VIN and some proof of ownership and they should be able to tell you the code. They might make a small charge.

Thanks again.
Yes, it is original as far as I know.
I'll give Jaguar a try - they have been very friendly and helpful with other queries so far...
