£100 for a scrap car, right now. A year and a half ago, it was £50.

That's inflation for you.

Oh to have had land and a bit of foresight when people were having to pay to get rid of the things a couple of years ago.

The frightening prospect is that of the cost of oil and minerals soon feeding back in to the cost of stuff we will be buying in a few months time.

At least anyone left with an old rusty Metro can honestly say that this is one BL car that's INCREASING in value!

(Brings back to mind the old Lada jokes about doubling its value by putting a bag of spuds in the boot)

A colleague of mine has just returned from a building project in China, where the locals have been helping themselves to the steel reinforcing bars intended for use in the concrete. He has a nasty feeling that they're not bothering to replace them, either...

I remember paying £25 to get rid of my old Ford Escort! One of the main differences now is that scrap metal merchants are getting the precious metals from the catalytic converters. On some modern diesels the catalyst alone is worth £250.

Drat! We scrapped our Metro over 15 years ago! Are there ANY of the original type Metros left? I haven't seen one for years! If there are any, they're probably increasing in value because of their rarity.

Shameless plug I know but it is for charity. If you want to check the value of your scrap vehicle visit scrapcarnetwork.org. They offer free collection throughout the UK and specialise in maximising the value of your vehicle. Not only will you get a great price but the money raised from processing the metal in your car goes towards sustaining the Recycling Lives charity. All in all you get the best of both worlds

I haven't used this particular website, but used giveacar.co.uk when time was called on my last car. Sorry if you think this is taking the Micheal regards the 'no advertising' rules. Mods, please remove the organisation name if required but please let my post stand as I had a very positive experience making a charitable donation. After emailing them through their website, a local scrappy contacted me by email and then by phone on the day of collection. Shame to see the old girl go but I recieved a letter a couple of weeks later saying my nominated charity had benefitted by £75. To be fair, it was proabably no less hassle than the previous time I scrapped a car (when I seem to remeber it cost me £40!) but in the scheme of things when considering the costs of getting a new car, I think it was the right move.

We don't normally allow free advertising, but as some of the proceeds go to charities I'll let this one stand. Wukl, you're just reporting good service - no problem at all.

Has anyone used Scrap car network's service, and if so how did you get on?

Original Metros are now starting to reach collectable and "starter classic" status.

I would imagine that Rover Metros/100s might also in the not too distant future.

Bit like Allegros now.

I recently scrapped my ford focus with xxxx & they gave me £100 so seems like crap posters are back on the rise!

Do you know anywhere that will scrap spammers like you?

I wish I could get all my PPI and Microsoft scam phone calls rerouted to these sort of people.
