c. 2001 instrument panel lighting glitches. - heraultcatman

For several months the car has displayed the engine warning light. Been comprehensively checked, but no fault found. Now the light has gone out, but so has the left-hand side of the panel display! Nothing obviously wrong with the display end, but where do I start looking to find the fault - or should I just assume the display is shot, and try and find a replacement at a local scrapyard?
