any one know where the auto gearbox oil level is as cant find any dipstick as is usual with autos

A lot of autos don't have dipsticks these days. They're (ahem) sealed for life.
The Omega didn't have one, neither does my Vectra-C. Not sure if this also applies to your Audi though.

It is 'sealed for life' but not 'guaranteed for life'.

I have the 2.5 TDi with Multi-tronic, and the gearbox oil needs to be changed every 40K. Only a dealer can do it as apparently the new oil has to be pre-heated, and then pumped in at a certain rate??
