Hi,
I'll second the bit about the dealers.
A while ago, I worked in a Vauxhall garage in Lancashire. With other local dealers, we would help each other out with each others type of car. So, for example, we might lend the Ford garage some special tools to do something on a Vauxhall, on the understanding that when we had bother with a Ford, they would help, advise, or lend us the tools.
Guess which was the only franchise which wouldn't play - SAAB!!

For years of my life I wanted a Saab 900. It was at the top of every shortlist I drew up. As I say, it lasted years - right up until the day I test drove one.
Sadly (for Saab), I tested it a few days before the corresponding 3 series. No contest. I've never wanted one since.

Never seen the attraction myself.

I'm going back 10 years, but two colleagues chose Saab 9000s at the same time as I very nearly joined them but went for a Renault Safrane.
The Saabs held their value better (couldn't have been worse, but it was company money, fortunately) but both gave no end of trouble whereas the Safrane never missed a beat in 120,000 miles over 4 years.
I haven't seen a Saab-knocking thread on this forum before now - there must be someone out there who will rally to their defence. They used to be thought of as the 'thinking man's Volvo' - but Volvos are so much better to drive now that maybe Saab doesn't have a USP any more. I suspect that GM is shoring them up financially.
Flatfour - your nom de plume (keyboard?) suggests you changed to a Subaru. True? Or an old VW Beetle?
|
Flatfour, because i'm restoring a 74 Beetle. My new car is a Hyundai Santa Fe, i'm sat in it laughing, its just so good, very very queit, 40 mpg, it does everthing well, very comfortable, easy to drive, rides on air, no it can't be a hyundai, I keep getting out to look at the badge on the front, no, of course this can't be a hyundai, can it? Well I Don't Care, its just so good!!!!
|
Flatfour - I don't understand what you're saying. Are you telling me in a roundabout way that you didn't like the Saab?

......bet you've got a few butterflies of excitement about your next car, tho....:+)
|
My 900 and the 9-5 which followed it were both very good (the only time I've ever stayed within a brand) and the two dealers involved were a cut above others I've dealt with. I hope your next car is a gem.
