The immobiliser FOB [the one with one button...the one prior to the PAT system] will not arm the ignition. When pressed the led on the FOB lights but no effect to the ignition. Have been quoted an horrendous price by my Ford main dealer for a new fob. Any suggestions, please?

Hi
You have a SI or Ghia Mondeo with the Bosch imobiliser by the sounds of it.
What are you skills with a soldering iron??? These have a well known fault with the solder joints inside the imobilisers brain box.
A tickle with a soldering iron on the dodgy joints will normaly fix this.
Have you tried the Ford Mondeo forum here?

Hi LeePower,
I'm ok with a soldering iron...will try what you said although earlier I did not see any with a magnifying glass....but you cannot always see them!!!. Also have been through part of the forum....but takes time....came across a specialist company who has shown how i can bypass the immmobilisation at the control box....but will do that only as last resort...will let u know how i get on....thank you....brian200

Its the control box thats the problem, It will have some nasty looking dry joints on the circuit board.
You will need to remove the box & re flow the solder joints on the circuir board.
Do you know where the control box is??? Its position & how to fix it is posted on the Mondeo forum.

After reading what you have said I thought I would re-look at the fob cct board first before i started on the control unit itself. I did find a completely dry joint on one of the pins on the SM chip...very difficult to see and completely missed when i first looked. re-soldered and ok!!
Thank you very much for all your good [and phenomenally fast] responses [on Saturday, too....I could not have believed such good fortune]. I would not have re-checked for dry joints without you prompting me.....really, thanks a lot....also for introducing me to Mondeo forum!
very kind regards
