My 1996 ultima when driven at a steady 3000 rpm will suddenly rise to around 3800 rpm without change of speed (70 mph). This happens usually after 30 minutes or so into a journey. It will happen on a still day (no wind) and without hills or other adverse conditions. I can get the same effect by switching off overdrive using the green button on the autoshift stick. Blipping the accelerator will generally bring the revs down to normal. Travelling at a steady but slightly lower speed (68mph)
results in perfect running. My car has a full service history with the local main Ford dealer. It is my fifth scorpio and is a low mileage car as I am now retired. 45500 on the clock. I am 2nd owner. Car supplied by my dealer for 30 years. They think there may be a problem with the elctronic Matte? Has anyone experienced this problem?
