Trying to take my IQ test, as instructed. But when it takes up to a minute for the next question to come up, there's no way that it can be taken in the time allotted.
The clock sits there ticking, and I carry on looking at the proposition. Ah well, out of time now.
Anybody else having this problem? (Not HJ's fault, but Volvo's)
For anybody else taking it, it is a timed test, and you have 12 minutes for 50 questions which should be absolutely loads, provided the technology is up to it...
|
At last.....the first time I have been able to see the Volvo ad
that everyone complains about. Click on it and get an empty window with 'document done' at the bottom of the browser window.
These advertisers have really got to get their act together if they want to make the internet adverts work. The AA banner doesnt work
under mozilla (with flash enabled) this was quite a relevation to me yesterday when I was testing the BR under Microsoft's IE....completely different.
I dont object to advertising, popups.....afterall it is up to me if I follow any of them up, but disfunctional ads are a pain in the neck, at best they clutter up the desktop with windows that cant be closed, at worst they crash the browser.
Surely the ad agencies can employ better software writers and do at least some testing?

When I did this at the weekend the next page came up in a couple of seconds or less.
|
Double clicking on the banner gives me a new window. Status bar at bottom indicates that it is sending requests to ad.uk.doubleclick.net and rd.intl.doubleclick.uk
then finishes with 'document: done (6.494sec)'
The URL window at the top of new window is empty!
I am sure I could write better code than this, I would certainly test it before releasing it. The ad agencies should be shot for this type of sloppiness.

It works fine for me. And I had about 4 minutes left.
And in case you're wondering, 148.

146 and smiling.....
everything ran smoothly on a BT broadbad conection at around 12.17, I guess that it is hosting problem not a coding problem.

Only 132, I must be pretty thick compared to you lot.
And it worked fine for me (although there was a spelling error in one of the questions)

134 and reasonably pleased.

146. Glad not to have stuttered to at standstill in the very early part of the test this time.

Well, tried IE and the dropdown works allowing you to start the IQ quiz, but like Mapmaker, I get to question 16 and it locks up with just the clock counting down.
Neither the AA or volvo dropdown work under mozilla (with flash)
and linux.

Try Konqueror (usually used for the file manager in KDE if you can't find it on a menu) and set it to mimic IE. Given the security weaknesses of IE I refuse to use it for online banking/shopping, so on the rare occasions when a site isn't Moz friendly (a web designer friend tells me IE is more tolerant of badly coded HTML--an "advantage" that is the primary cause of its security problems) I use Konqueror. You should also email the ad provider and tell them, because Apple also use a Gecko-based browser so they are losing contact with (potentially) five percent of their customers not including the ones using Mozilla in Windows (quite a lot).

Got bored with it but managed to get 108.
Just like advanced 11+ questions that I was always carp at.
A GCSE student would be horrified if they came across questions like these!
|
More like modern psychometric testing questions, I think. Scored 130 (not bad for being in a busy office - quick here comes the boss!) but reminded how much I hate this type of 'test'. Still, at least we're interacting with the ad, and that's what it's about where HJ's revenue is concerned.
|
Strangely I got exactly the same score as I did aged 11 - does that mean I've learned nothing since then? In my mitigation I had 2 kids hassling me and knocks at the door to interrupt my concentration.
From my scan through this thread it would seem that Mark is our resident genius at the moment - has anyone beaten him yet?

I got a whopping 53, but didnt finish it as the nurse came round with my medication......
|
I got 130. I do A-level Maths and Further Maths and I thought some of those questions were fiendishly difficult to attempt without a calculator. I ran out of time on the submarine one.
|
In which case I'm shocked at (but not surprised by) your mental arithmetic.
I was just about the last year at my school where calculators were banned until thirteen years old. We used to do mental arithmetic tests all the time. I think it is the most valuable skill I have, as I can look at calculations and apply the 'reasonableness' test. When the Government encouraged children as young as 8 (or whatever) to learn to use calculators, 'a valuable skill' they deprived a generation of a very important skill.
On the other hand, I admire you for doing further maths A level (if it's as hard as it used to be). Div, grad & curl went so far over my head...
|
Well I thought I had to give the test a go. So given your tips on getting through it quick enough, went for it á tout vitesse.
As mentioned here you do need to know your mental arithmetic well - Mark is clearly the genius here.
Something odd then happened. Unless I was drinking some very strange coffee I am sure it said question 52 of 50 - then I got a nasty error message posted on the screen - you know the kind of message that says there has been an unexpected error in their coding, and then then next screen said I had an IQ of 63!!
So for all you dimwits out there who are suffering from low self esteem as a result of doing this test be assured that this site was coded in the main by someone that Volvo deems to have an IQ less than a demented chimp!

That explains a lot.
Sorry, that should read \"ooook ooook ooh-oooh-ooh eeek!\" [Waves banana at Stephen]
:o)
|
Thanks for giving me something to do that didn't involve PR in any way - am seriously considering a career change once I've finished my dissertation!
I hate those "it takes 15 men an hour to build a wall..." type question, have no idea how to do them.
But anyway, I got 131 so am feeling quite pleased with myself :)
|
|
I thought I would astound (or more likely amuse) with my test results, but every time I click on the link I get something like 'ad.doubleclick.net has refused this connection'.

Reminds me of a story I once heard about some folk at a zoo watching a gorilla take a banana and proceed to peel it ever so carefully.
Sighs of "ooh ahhh" from the captivated crowd. "Isn't he clever..." and similar gasps, at which point the gorilla finished peeling the banana, threw away the insides and ate the skin!!

"..does that mean I've learned nothing since then?"
I'm sure you've learned lots*, HF, but you're still using the same brain.. :-)
*Experience is the best school, but the fees are high.

Very long time, JBJ! Good to 'see' you!
I cannot afford a brain transplant just now - but please do tell me what the fees must be, in my school of experience?

Tried this IQ test on Mozilla. Scored 69. Realised that like most of these adverts it's not Mozilla compatible so for a laugh went back and did it on IE. Scored 144 which is much more acceptable! :p

Oh ! That explains it. I was using Firefox on the Mac - which is a Mozilla browser.
So maybe I am not as dumb as a chimp after all.
Did you get the same nasty error messages then?
cheers

Yes, by Mozilla I mean Firefox as well.
The problem seems to be that on IE when you actually click on the answer it goes on to the next question. I assume you thought as I did that you had to choose the answer then click next? That must simply skip the question rather than submitting your answer, plus it also seems to skip over questions.

Hmmm!
i did the test and scored a measly 110, probably why my mates call me billy,(they are probably too polite to use the pre-fix of "silly"). after reading previous posts with results varying from the 120's to 140's i put my conical hat with the big "D" on and took it again, this time i just clicked random answers without thinking, and scored 140!
come clean, is this what you did really?
silly billy.
