Hi
I have a citroen AX, which has recently had a new clutch fitted. I thought that this would have made the gear change a bit easier, but I'm still having difficulties. There is also a sort of creaking noise sometimes when I put my foot on the clutch which has me worried that the cable might break - which happened to me last August...
As the clutch has just been replaced, would the mechanic have put in a new clutch cable (since there was a new one put in in August). If not, what are the chances that the cable will break again so soon?
Thanks in advance :-)

No point guessing, ask the mechanic.
If its creaking, it will either need lubricating or changing (preferably latter).
While you're there ask him exactly what was changed (clutch plate/ pressure plate/ thrust bearing).

Your gear change problem may be due to a dragging clutch. Where is the bite point if it is too low then it eaither requires adjusting or the automatic adjuster has not kicked in. Engine off clutch pedal to the floor then slip your foot off so the pedal shoos up. This should kick the auto adjust to take out the slack. The creaking could be anything even a dry attachment at the top of the pedal. Regards Peter

Nightmare - another new clutch cable, I think it might be time for me to go get me an apprenticeship at a garage
...or a new car... :-)
Thanks for your reply
