change of life (male - late) - El Hacko
Anyone changed their car, and as result, found it changed the driver? After over 20 yrs' driving autos, latter 2 yrs with a Lexus 200 auto, I have managed to find what I'm told is fairly rare 5 door A3 quattro turbo diesel sport, 6-speed, and suddenly I am "driving" again! From being cossetted in a comfortable small limo with rather gutless performance, I'm now rejuvenated (at age 61) by the A3. What a handsome, rewarding hatchback - exciting and returns over 40mpg, even on local runs. After rear wheel drive, this is so sure footed (canna wait for next snow!). So comfortable, too - the seats are firmer, shaped.
Better stop there. Just to say: I enjoy my motoring much more now, and (hey) am much happier person!

E.H,
certain keywords in your post have me slightly worried!
e.g, hatchback-rejuvenated-driving-again,snow,etc.
sounds like you have a mild dose of "recaptured youth syndrome",next diagnostic sign is starting to wear a baseball cap backwards!! :-)

You might also like to consider this letter, from today's Times...

I haven't reproduced it here as it would get quashed (although a link is almost as dangerous I suppose!) but I would suggest no further discussion on that subject. Although, if it's good enough for The Times...? :-)

El Hacko, had a similar new lease of life when I sold my misfiring BMW 520 auto and cadged my mum's XR2 off her. Next best step-change for me was Cortina Mk5 to Cavalier Mk2.

another point: at my age, have now got more time to enjoy the car - having retired a year ago and returned to desk part time (but only when I feel like it) - hey, must remember NOT to reach for Optimax on the odd occasions this Audi needs refuelling!
last thought: with this new lease of life, how abt forming a branch of GOD (Growing Old Delightfully)?

I thought it was growing old disgracefully.

Be careful Hacko - next it'll be the Harley Davidson down Box Hill on a Sunday at Rykas for a burger with the old lady - before long you'll be known as the Leatherhead Growler!

3 pledges (in public): I stick to 4 wheels, never wear a baseball cap (even right way) and don't touch burgers (especially at Box Hill).
