There's nothing to stop people using ;) and :) although I prefer to add a nose.... :o)
The term TiC (tongue in cheek) is also used.
Whilst many posts are serious, there are many that should have a small portion of salt included. Life's serious enough without making the internet another warzone.
Yes, plain text can seem abrupt. Some get used to it and make allowances, others don't and we tend not to see too much of them as they have a habit of bursting into flames. Join the former gang and life is so much nicer.
