Sorry to hear your transport collapsed. Perhaps you could go on the bus to work instead:-)). Seriously tho have you considered another box from scrappie . Is not too difficult to change on a Golf.
Best of luck Phil I .

Mods - I am aware that this is a classified section, and not discussion, but I'd be grateful if you'd let me me do Phil the courtesy of answering him (I checked his profile, but there's no e-mail address). Thanks.
Phil,
It actually wasn't the gearbox in the end. The n/s cv joint had shattered, meaning that drive could not be taken up. This, and the work needed to get the car through it's MoT means that it just is not economical to do.
Ta for your concern though :-)

Rob,
Just a suggestion, have you thought about ringing around the local franchise dealers?
Often they have cheapies that they just want to see the back of. The cost of auctioning them can outwheigh what they are worth, so they would end up with zilch.
Just a thought....
Also - e bay...

PS Sorry mods, move into discussion if you want

Bought a 1996 Citroen AX 5 door with MOT and 41000 miles for £125 last weekend -just sold the registration number to a dealer for £200. -£75. Cheap car?

Rob
That golf diesel may fetch a few £ on E bay for spares?

1996?
That's a £1k motor, surely?

I think as I remember saying gearbox won`t give up.cv joint I didn`t mention.unless you have gotton rid of.the car it may be worth saving.as most are decent motor`s unless you dead keen on getting shot.but then you could spend more on a newer car.as most will agree.
|
Hugo,
Funny you should say that as it's on E-bay at the moment!
Currently at £30.
But....
mech1,
It needed the cv joint, as well as a wheel bearing, a brake hose and two brake pipes. Far more than the car was worth.
Plus once all that had been done, there was no guarantee that it would pass a brake or emissions test for the MoT.
So the decision had to be made. In the end I sold it to my local garage as a 'project car' (Chislehurst Road Garage if you're interested - very honest and reliable) for more than the current bid on E-bay.
Mods - ta for moving the thread. It wasn't really suitable for Classifieds, was it?
Cheers

My Citroen had been traded into a main Vauxhall dealer for a new Agila. If you go round to the dealers at the beginning of the month and space is tight you can leave a bid on a car. I did this - the dealer had wanted £300. I told him to ring me before the end of the week if he wanted my custom. Complained a bit but took the money and I got the car. Got a phone call from him yesterday asking me to call round and look at a one owner 1993 50,000 mile Fiat Uno Start (£250 he wants) and a 39000 mile '95 Fiesta (£400).If they are good I 'll offer £250 for both. £125 being my top offer for a car!!! Problem is I already have two cars and don't really want any more - nore do I want to become a trader.

Hi Rob
I'm glad you managed to get a few quid for the car.
I hope the 405 does you well, let me know if you need any spares for it as my garage friend still has his two in his car park.

Hello Hugo,
So far so good 405-wise! I do need a few bits for it, as it happens. Please e-mail me (address in profile) and I'll expand - although not too much as I'm not sure how much more my trousers can take!!!!
Cheers
