It broke down today.
What I loved about the whole Martian episode was the difference highlighted between our two cultures. Britain sends a "rover" named after a dog. (yes I know it was ship as well). The US sends a bigger flashier one called "SPIRIT" (with no irony). Britons comtemplated the faliure with tea, biccies and a roll up fag. The US celebrates success with champers, flags and tears of joy and win the prize for technology.I know who would win the prize for smugness though.

plus Beagle was built using the same sort of money Rover spent on the City Rover !! (and probably lasted as long...)

Maybe the Yanks are not so smug this morning - they seem to have lost contact 'there has been a very serious anomaly on the vehicle' said the project manager Pete Thesiger last night.
It is sounding more like a real Rover every second........

Ive heard they have just remade contact, : Intermitent contact = electrical failure = could it be a FIAT?

On the 'lost contact' theme, my favourite from NASA was a description explaining a shuttle launch had been delayed because the 'vehicle is operating in a mode of non-functionality'.
A term I now use to frequently describe the state of my car.

I don't know such Dave, MG-Rovers are just as bad with the imobilisers not working as they should.

It was a grave mistake to send two dogs (rover and beagle) to mars at the same time. They have probably had a scrap. Plus when man first lands on mars it will be "one small step for man --- eeewww whats that brown smelly stuff on my boot"
