VW Golf Radiator leak, use repair putty? - andrew4
Hi All

I have a VW Golf 1300 Mk2 82,000 miles.

I have a slight radiator leak. The source of the leak appears to come from the bottom right hand corner of the radiator.

I have bought some repair putty (for petrol tanks & radiators), will this work?

I do not want to use holts RadWeld.

Thanks

IF you can properly clean the area to be sealed and it gets a good key (roughen it up a bit), IF its on a flat part or seam, IF you can get suffcient pressure on the putty to force some into the hole as well, then you may be ok. Dont forget its pressurised and will find any weakness in your repair.

There is no way any of these putties or Radweld will work for any time with a modern, pressurised system. Don't waste your money, put it towards a recon radiator from a reputable supplier. However, check very carefully that it is the rad leaking and not a hose, or where a hose fastens to the radiator. I can't remember whether the bottom hose attaches to the radiator at the bottom right hand side on a Golf Mk.2
