Objects thrown from M'way bridges - Oz
Probably I'm the closest back-roomer to the tragic incident which occurred 2 weeks ago on the M3 when a brick dropped/thrown from a bridge penetrated the windscreen of a lorry, striking the driver on the chest, and resulting in a fatal heart attack. Miraculously the driver brought the lorry to a halt on the hard shoulder, preventing other casualties.
I'm lost for words in admiration of this skilful action, and in condemnation for the type of scum who indulge in this hideously and self-evidently dangerous practice, thankfully rare - I think - I hope.

Me too, Oz. I think that his family can take a lot of comfort from the fact that he averted a possible major disaster before he died. They can be very proud... I'm sure I speak for every Back Roomer in sending condolonces to his relatives.

there was a spate of these afew years back in the midlands

I got into a habbit then that if I saw anyone on a bridge I would swap lanes just before going under it.

hope they catch the toe rags that did it and lock them up and loose the key - but knowing what usually happens they'll get a telling of and a holiday in spain.

Happens comparitively frequently around Belfast. Usually kids. Some of the pedestrian bridges have been fenced right across, to protect the motorists below. As opposed to preventing people being thrown off, which has also happened - a notorious instance of this happened a year or so ago, where someone was killed due to head & spinal injuries sustained when they were thrown thirty feet onto the M2 at night and lay undiscovered till the following day.

There was a case a handful of years back, also on the M3 (near Fleet services I believe) where a young man in a company Escort suffered horrific injuries as a result of a brick being dropped onto (and coming through) his windscreen. I don't believe anyone was ever caught for it, which begs the question are they still doing it?
I remember the details quite clearly, because the victim had the same surname as me, and my parents had a very worrying few hours between hearing a news report and being able to contact me.

A reasonable precautionary measure Chris, except that this latest incident apparently happened at around 12.30 am.
According to the local press, Ford (the driver's employer) have put up a large cash reward for information etc., and it's being treated as a murder enquiry.
