Heated Steering Wheel - mjk43

I should be grateful for any advice on which relatively inexpensive cars have a heated steering wheel either as an option or preferably as standard on a top spec car. That's because my wife has Reynaud's, one symptom of which is icy hands, and she would really like to swap her car for one with a heated wheel. Gloves unfortunately just don't achieve anything for her.

I say "preferably as standard" because our preference is to buy about 2 years old after the steepest depreciation and finding a model with heated steering wheel as an added extra could be very difficult.

Many thanks for your thoughts !

Cheapest car I can think of with that feature is Vauxhall Corsa or Adam.

I too suffer from a form of Reynauds - I don't think a heated steering wheel will achieve anything as the problem is caused by severely restricted blood supply - in my case external heat doesn't warm them up, I have to vigourously exercise the hands by rapidly clenching/releasing to stimulate increased blood flow.

Discuss this with your/her specialist and "try before you buy".

Heated steering isn't standard on anything under about £100,000 - it's an option even in the £50-70,000 range!

My Focus ST has a heated steering wheel. Great on icy mornings.

It might not have any impact on the condition itself, but anything that will improve comfort is a bonus surely.

OP: Best way to find one is to go on auto trader and enter "heated steering wheel" in quotation marks in the 'key words' section.

Or just click this link and take your pic/refine as necessary. Wide range of vehicles that i never really expected to have such a feature!

I would be tempted to contact the large nationwide dealers, Arnold Clarke, Evans Halshaw etc and tell them you are looking for something......anything! with a heated wheel and are prepared to pay up to £xx. They will check their national stocks and also have access to setups like Network Q and Ford direct so should be able to locate suitable used cars anywhere in the country if available.

If they do have something in national stock or can locate something via a manufacturers approved scheme they are usually prepared to move the car to your local branch for a fee that will be knocked off the price if you buy it or refunded if you choose not to.

Kia Cee'd - 4 and 4 Tech versions have heated front seats and steering wheels.

I suffer from Reynards too and, like RT, have doubts whether a heated wheel will help.

Years ago when I set off early for work and my car lived just outside the garage, I strapped a defunct long thin toaster with half a rosemary roof tile in it(only one element worked) to the front of the drivers seat and ran the flex out through the boot under the garage door to a time clock which turned it on for an hour before my departure. Result - warmish interior, warm steering wheel and no ice on the windscreen. Fire risk negligible. Well worth half a unit of electricity, and the miniature storage heater exuded warmth until the car engine warmed up.

Got confidence in Vauxhall wiring at the moment then?

I've got a diesel-fired parking heater on my SUV - so just press the remote control 20 minutes before we go and everything's warmed up nicely - including the engine cooling system so that warms up very fast.

For years, I've used a fan heater, placed carefully on the passenger seat, 10 to 15 mins clears all ice and leaves the interior nicely warmed. Heated seats are great to warm your "core" temperature up very fast, don't forget those.

I ride a motorbike in winter and have found that 12v heated clothing is amazingly effective, you can buy heated gilets very cheaply which will plug into the car 12v system.

Standard on my new Kia. Don't know if its also on other models in the range.

BMWs have the ability to switch the central vents from cold to hot air, which might help?
