audi/volkswagen - service intervals - autumnboy

Looking at Audi and Volkswagen suv's

I thought they both use the same engines etc,

But seen the service interval for a 2017 2.0 A6 is 20k and yet the 2017 Tiguan 2.0 is 10k

Is this correct

If I remember right, VW/Audi etc cars can be set by the dealer to variable servicing intervals (typically a max of 20K miles or 2 years between services) or regular servicing every year or 10K miles.

The variable servicing is to reduce the costs for company car fleet owners, and is based on the assumption that company car drivers do lots of long journeys. Most cars sold to private owners are set to annual servicing (BMW is an exception to this, I don't know about other marques).

Both brands have two optional service regimes - Flexible is every 20,000 miles / 2 years but may be reduced by hard conditions - while Time & Mileage is 10,000 miles / 1 year - the difference is that the Time & Mileage just adds an interim oil change.
