Ford Fiesta - Unknown groaning noise commensurate with road spee - MiketheKnight

Hello,

My 2015 Ford Fiesta 1.0 iitre 5 speed ecoboost has a groaning noise commensurate with road speed, the noise remains even when neutral is elected at all speeds. I don't think it is a wheel bearing(s) as the noise remains the same on whatever lock is applied Any ideas please?

Regards David

Wheel bearing is favourite suspect despite the noise not changing, you might find the source if you jack one wheel up at a time and spin it up, though sometimes wheel bearings don't make any noise until they have some weight on them so can be difficult to diagnose accurately, spinning the wheels up by hand will also show up something dragging against a disc.

Have you checked the gearbox oil level, hopefully too new for a gearbox problem but if its sprung a leak and you haven't noticed...

This sounds more like tyre noise - try swapping tyres front to back on the same side, in case they are directional tyres - it it alters the noise, makes it better or worse, that's the answer.

Quite a common problem that develops as tyres wear, variously called feathering, cupping or sawtooth wear.
