lexus gs450h, 2007 - lexus rear wheel bearing/hub swap - carnut1980

Hi all. I have a 2007 gs450h.
When on the move, there is a noise from the rear, gets louder with speed. It sounds a little like a blowing exhaust, though it just passed an MOT, and the noise doesnt get louder with the windows down.
I think it could be the rear wheel bearing, as the sounder is quieter when doing a hard left/putting more weight on the right hand side.

Are these hard to do? perhaps getting the hub assembly is easier?

The noise is very annoying. Please help!

Replace as a complete hub Assembly.Dismantle all brake parts and unbolt from the axle.Looks like the part is available aftermarket from Blueprint auto parts.Hate to think what it would cost from Lexus.

You have one of the most complicated and intricate fast cars on the road, with some seriously expensive drive and recovery systems built in, not a car to be guessing from a second hand internet description what the fault is, nor attempting a fix unless you know what you are doing.

The only place that would be going for diagnosis if it were mine would be the Lexus workshops, from their diagnosis you can decide how to proceed.

Unusual car, one i could certainly live with.

Be aware that the rear brakes are linked to the hybrid system = for regeneration etc.

As above: a job for experts.

If by chance you trigger the braking system by accident and find your car is undriveable the only people who can reset the system are a Lexus garage . So £££s for recovery on a flatbed and repair..

Before getting involved in changing wheel bearings, assuming they have been checked by looking for movement at the wheel circumference, and there is no roughness when spinning the wheel, check the circumference of the tyre tread on the inside.

Run your hand flat around the tyre inner edge looking for or feeling for the treadblocks where can feel their edges sharp in one direction but smooth in the other direction, this is called feathering or scalloping and will make a buzzing or humming noise at speed - cheaper than replacing bearings!
