Buy a tank or two of Shell V Power Diesel and give the car a few long runs and an Italian Tune-up once a week as well.
In a parallel thread Skidpan and BBD have touched on this question, which I am purposely keeping completely open-ended: why do some buyers habitually buy new cars, rather than used ? There can be all kinds of reasons - and I would like to hear any of them - but knowing how depreciation sets in, they would have to be serious ones. Read more
. Then around the early 80s vauxhall launched the Astra with a 75bhp 1.3 that seemed extraordinary how they'd done that...
As above.
Its only one poster causing issues so why stop the remainder of members sensibly discussing the issues. It was after all a moderator who started one of the locked topics.... Read more
Valid points sammy1 but where discussions sail too close to the line in terms of things getting a bit personal, we have to intervene.
ORB and myself have discussed this and we will re-open the 'which vaccine' thread but for the last time, so it's up to everyone to keep thinks civil....
My front tyres requires replacing is it ok to fit a different brand of tyres ( same specifications as back ) just different brand .possibly Goodyear, original were hankuk (Lot of road noise) rear tyres are ok Read more
For optimum handling, tyres should be at roughly the same level of wear. I swap front to rear at around 12,000 miles. If at 24,000 miles the rears had a bit more tread than the fronts (assuming FWD), I would swap them back again, thus ensuring full use of all tyres before replacing all four at once.
A bit of superficial cracking with age is of no consequence. A more important thing to be aware of is invisible hardening, which I noticed some years ago on the twenty year old tyres on my TR7. It causes increasingly poor roadholding, especially in the wet. But that's a risk mainly for v low mileage classic car owners as it seems to have little effect up to ten years old. Probably longer for classics, as they are usually kept in cool dark places.
I had new EPB cables fitted for MOT recently now EPB fault warning on dash.
took car back and been told it is the park brake switch at fault but they are reluctant to do it because its a major job apparently (steering column off etc.) I've do some looking and it may not be that hard and switch appears to be only about £20 is this something I could change myself or is it a dealer job?... Read more
Has the diagnosis come from the plug in on the car and was this a Jag dealer or specialist. Sounds a right stupid design to have to remove a steering column for a £20 switch. Have you tried Google U tube or Jag forums for more info?
I have recently gone from a Golf Mk6 to a Mk7.5 - do you know if the OEM roof bars from the Mk6 will fit the Mk7 model? Read more
Such a diverse climate for such a small island isn't it? I grew up in Scotland, and Easter weekend ( back in the late 70s / early 80s ) was often celebrated with our last skiing trip to the Cairngorms of the season. My wife grew up in Cheshire, and her memories of the same period are of it often being the first family outing to a warm beach in North Wales of the year.
Brought up in the West Riding where, until age 10/11 Easter was invariably spent in the same Farmhouse D, B&B near Keswick. Weather varied from freezing with hail/snow to so warm we were cooling canned drinks in streams. But then Easter can vary from third weekend in March to similar in April; a hell of a change without North/South coming into play.

Don't know about VAG diesels (never had one with a DPF but our Kia diesel with DPF was different to that. First off no waring light, I asked the dealer why not and he explained that Kia considered another idiot light on the dash would potentially have owners flooding the dealerships thinking something was wrong. He agreed that for owners who read and understood the manual it would be fine but apparently we are in the minority....
