Just brought my 2.0 tddi mondeo from an auction. Didnt pay too much for it. I got in it, it started fine and the idle sat fine (it was quite smokey but i put this down to being a deisel). I then took it for a little drive, now i have never had one of these before so dont actually know how much power they are ment to have, but as i put my foot down it just didnt feel like it had much go, also the big problem, if i put my foot down in first or second it judders like mad, so i stopped and revved it to 2k rmp, i keep my foot still, but the needle was all over the place and felt to be misfiring quite badly and also puffed a lot of smoke out . (I did decide it was not a good idea to drive it home because of this) I didnt really get into any other gears as i could only drive it in a small car park so couldnt tell you if it like it all the way through the box. Now im thinking maybe something to do with fuel???? Also as it got up to temp it was (i would say) very smokey!!!! Has anyone go any ideas at all??? Any help would be great. Thanks Read more
I know there is a school of thought on this forum that says with a diesel you just 'service it and it runs forever'. We today I have just been dealing with a 2005 Sharan 1.9PD - car on variable servicing and turbo kaput at less than 50k miles. Last week we had a Golf of similar age with only 40k miles and turbo and DMF gone on that too. Last month we had a Vectra 1.9 D (2005 or 6, can't remember) engine totally AWOL at 100k (it was a taxi) and a similar age Mondeo TDCI with broken up fuel pump at 60k. No wonder there are some cheap s/hand cars about.
My little bit of advice to diesel owners - longlife servicing WRECKS your car. Current oil and filter technology is not up to 20k changes. I'm seeing lots of cars (mostly diesels) on LL servicing with expensive faults. For cost of a gallon of oil and filter get it done every 6 months - doesn't have to be a £150 job at a main dealer, get it done at an independent (or yourself) between main services. Read more
The BMW variable service indicator was introduced much earlier than that; my old E30 325i Touring has it and it was registered in '88. In saloon form the E30 was launched in '83 IIRC, and I'm pretty sure it had the same system

My daughter and s/i/l have just bought a 06 plate 3 series. Although it has a CD player, I'd like to buy them an iPod adapter for Xmas.
Anyone know if there is a reasonably priced and reasonably easy one to fit (aftermarket or whatever)?
I don't mean the radio frequency type, but one that plugs into the back of the the ICE system.

I also had a Dension fitted to my E46 BMW M3 and it worked very well. On the E90 3 Series there should be a USB socket either in the glovebox or under the arm rest, unless it's one of the few that were ordered without the i-Drive screen.
Anyone bother doing this? I keep mine clean just by wiping the hoses, plastic covers and engine block down with a damp cloth. No spraying or engine degreaser. But I suppose since I've hardly ever used the car (6000 miles on it), there wouldn't ever be too much dirt in there anyway. Read more
I can't even see my engine for the oily sludge that covers it, presumably from a pin-prick leak in a turbo air hose somewhere. Doesn't bother me in the slightest. I look at the engine every month or two to make sure it still has oil in it, and that's about it.
1st of many posts about my 52 reg car.........
Like to know can i flash code read the srs circuit and whats the procedure, my snapon machine wont read. Cheers andy Read more
There is a procedure in the service manual.

Very common for the connections/ground under the seats to be disturbed.
Seems like my car has its first ding on the driver's side door because of some insensitive moron in a car park. Not sure when or where it happened. I'm not too annoyed because it doesn't show much, its very small. But I do not understand people who just smash their doors against other cars in car parks - even if I had a car that was only worth £200 or whatever, I would still make sure not to hit my doors against anything... Very sensible brettmick. I'm in the same position really: can't afford new. Am likely to be moving to Buxton if we ever sell our house in the glorious Ribble Valley. Hint. If there is a semi-decent Subaru dealer near Buxton might well consider their offerings.
The first motor show opened on this day (11th December) in Paris in 1894. Read more
About 1894, twenty cars were in use in the entire France.
This experience was a complete failure because only two cars were presented that year.
So 10% of all the cars in the country turned up. That sounds like a success to me.
Has anyone used servicingstop.co.uk ?
They claim to keep warranty intact for all makes of vehicle. They are just iover £100 cheaper for the main service on my diesel A4.
Are they any good ? Read more

The comment on the F1 thread reminded me that I wanted to go and have a look at the Donnington Museum... as I have a week off I though I'd go this week, but the website is offline... Does anyone know if its still open or if its having the same problems as the track? Read more
Rats! I didn't know about that :-( And it was chucking it down that day too. Ah well.

As RW or recent misfuelling, either petrol or some twit running on mazola.
Unless you've got deep pockets i'd chuck it back in another auction pronto.
