We bought a mini a couple of weeks ago, but have only just realised it hasn't got a spare wheel.

We bought it from a trader, so our question is - isn't he obliged to make sure there is a spare wheel in good condition there? Read more

On the original new MINIs (I have no idea about the more recent models) all
of them had no spare wheel irrespective of whether they had runflat or normal tyres.
The button under the handbrake was also present irrespective of whether they had runflat or
normal tyres and is to reset the system that tells you if you have a
slow puncture.

As a MINI owner - I confirm you are 100% correct.

Engine will start .If I soak the air filter in petrol it starts but only for a few secs. I guess engine is not getting fuel from the pump. The starter spinns the engine quite easily as if no petrol in the cylinders. Where is the fuel pump so that I can check? Any other checks you can suggest. Is the pump not running because of a sensor somewhere? I have tried to draw petrol throgh the petrol filter but that is difficult and I guess that it is coming through a valve etc in the fuel pump but I cannot find the pump! Any help please. Check the fuel pump fuse and holder in front of the battery.
The pre-R reg are VERY prone to damp.

Is the Engine warning light on?

I've been told that if an airbag goes off the car will be written off by the insurance company - any idea if this is the case?

Hi

My first post on here and am hoping for a few pointers - is replacing the loom a fairly straight forward job? Do I need any specialist tools - also should I apply gasket compound when I put the "rocker" cover back on?

Just as some background I have been experiencing some juddering between 2000-3000 revs in my GT TDI 150 PD, engine code ARL, after about 10 miles driving (similar symptoms to this thread www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=67399&...e). It clears if I turn the engine off and on - and also on longer journeys seems to settle down after a while.

My local garage diagnosed a misfire on cylinder 1 and said it needed a new injector. I was thinking of trying the injector loom first as it's cheaper to do - although someone I was speaking to seemed to think that as the injectors are driven off the cam the wiring couldn't have this effect???

Any advice or suggestions much appreciated - thanks. Read more

1.9 tdi 100 is not a PD engine. You had better post up you engine code. If it's an AVG it does not have cable harness in the head. Regards Peter

Hi have just bought a 2000 406 Executive 2.0 HDi 110 and the blower fan does not work, the fan control on the display shows the different speeds. Have unplugged the plug from the motor & there is no feed, fuse No. 40 (40amp) has voltage present. Is there a control unit of some sort. P.S it has a/c Read more

I thought I would update this, as I haev had my problem fixed!

The problem, was the sensor had stuck to closed which was fixed by a mechanic who happened to be looking at my fault with more care.
This is ensuring you have checked the blower motor actually works by running both 12V+ & - from the battery to either terminal on the blower fan....

I am not sure how but I have lost the key for my Ford locking wheel nuts on my Focus.
I was hoping it would be easy to get another one from Ford but they were very unhelpful and told my wife that their 'Rapid Fit' centre would remove the old nuts and charge us £40 for the new ones plus the labour to remove the old. This to me seems absurd and in any case hell would freeze over before I would let one of those places anywhere near my car.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

L'escargot I dont have the polythene bag but I agree quoting the VIN should be enough as these are Ford factory fitted items, coupled with the fact that I would most likely be driving the car to the dealer to purchase the wheel nut key. I just feel that as my wife went to the dealer she was simply fobbed off because she was a female.

Hello everyone, I hope you may be able to help me out in regards to a fault code on my 2003 Mazda 6 diesel. Recently on Mazda diagnostics a fault code appeared on the computer B1871 - Passenger airbag deactive, module fault

Automatically I was told by the mechanic, that'll be £400 odd for a new module, to which I declined as I didnt have that sort of money. Now my question is this, could this fault code be due to the passenger side airbag being deactivated for posisbly a child seat? The airbag light does not illuminate at all on the dash when the ingnition is turned and I thought if a fault was in the system this should stay on?

Also there's another light above the ashtray with shows a baby seat on the front passenger seat and an airbag which does illuminate green and then goes off after 5 seconds or so and I was wondering what this light is for as I have herad the passenger side airbag can be switched off for the purpose of a baby seat.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers cj1000, you're world of information, take it you've had a Mazda yourself or worked on them?

Thanks again,

Hi all

At the point of frustration here, so any pointers really appreciated.

Have an 11K mileage/March '09 car which - since a I got secondhand from the dealer in July - has had occasional fan running-type noise after engine switch off, usually after short journeys and can run for anything up to 5 mins. Sometimes (at least) this has been accompanied by blue-ish smoke (which one assumes as oil) coming from the engine compartment, normally escaping via the front wheel arches. On two occasions, the 'engine malfunction' message has come up. This whole process can occur up to 3 times in a week, though is normally once every 7-10 days. The car doesn't handle differently performance wise, even when I can hear the fan noise with window down, at traffic lights, etc..

The car has been to the dealer twice and, with their tendency to use a laptop and not a spanner these days have found no problems (engine codes or otherwise, despite the messages I saw). On the second visit, they told me the fan noise after switch off was the EGR valve, but couldn't explain the smoke. Have recently put a full tank of Shell V-Power into it, should it be a supermarket fuel issue with the EGR.

As this engine isn't just limited to Mondeos, has anyone got any ideas on what to do next?

Many thanks! Read more

Skyman, I too have only a short commute to work (3.5 miles each way). Sometimes a couple of weeks will go by without me doing a journey longer than 10 miles or outside urban limits.

In the first few months of ownership of my 2.0 with DPF, I used to get these DPF regens every 2 weeks or so.

But then I started using 3rd gear in 30 limits (4th is really too tall for my liking in town anyway) and only using 6th gear when at 75+ on motorways, and regens are far, far less frequent now.

Also, I can now hear when the cooling fan is on (indicating a regen is under way), so if I'm near home and I hear it, it only needs an extra couple of minutes driving for the cycle to finish.

Guys,

I've just ordered a Merc 250CDI as a company car but my finance manager has held back the order as we have a 220CDI Blue Efficiency on our fleet that has been having a lot of issues with its injectors (replaced twice in just a few months).

Does anybody know if the Blue Efficiency engines have an inherent injector issue or if the other car on our fleet was just a 'Friday' car?

MG1978

C220 CDI SE 09 reg broke down completely today and is currently with the garage for diagnosis but doesn’t look good. Decided to do some research and reading all the articles and comments I remembered being called by my MB dealer 18 months ago saying there was a recall on a part but not specifying which one. I had it booked in twice but MB cancelled both times saying the parts were out of stock and in the end we forgot about it and we never got a call back. Anyway today, the engine light was on and the car suddenly wouldn’t go above 30mph and the fuel efficiency was down at 15mpg. Then when I tried to restart the engine was making a rattling noise and the car wouldn’t respond. In fact the engine would start, I could move a few feet but then it would shut down. Seems pretty bad but I wonder if it does turn out to be the injectors, do I have any rights with MB? I bought in 2010 and the car is registered in Oct 09. I had it serviced by MB in 2011 and 2012 and privately serviced in 2013. JUst shy of 40,000 miles Thanks for help/advice
