Just bought a focus 2.0tdci (06).
Having problems with it starting.
Some days it will start first time but others it starts at the second attempt?
Any ideas on what it could be? Read more

billpayer do let us know how the new jazz is compared to running the old
one the economy and like and dislikes?
Picked it up yesterday and went for a bit of a run this morning.
On the trip computer economy is about the same - just under 50MPG. Car is generally quieter although the EX model we have is maybe a bit noiser than others due to its glass roof - there's some kind of buffeting/disturbance going on which is noticeable but not too intrusive. The new engine is very quiet, although there is a bit of what sounds like induction roar on accelleration.
The EX comes with 16" wheels and 185/55R16 tyres - Dunlop SP2030's on ours. They seem pretty quiet but of course don't do much for the ride. It's not as bouncy as our old 2003 Jazz on 14" wheels but I think it's just suppressing the bumps a bit better, rather than absorbing them.
Interior trim quality (especially the plastics) isn't as good as the old model and the cupholders on either end of the dash make it more claustrophic than it needs to be.
The EX model is a bit bonkers - glass roof, climate control and cruise control are all un-neccesary. One of the nice things about the old Jazz was it was all pretty simple. And those low profile tyres scare me for around town use.
Hi All,
I have a 51 reg. VW Golf 1.6 16v with an AZD engine. It's done around 64,000 miles, and I've had it for 2.5 years (a relative had it before from new). Since it's been in my possession I've had 6 (2 cylinders once, 2 twice) ignition coils replaced (5 by the AA on the roadside, and 1 at a garage the day after the annual service). Generally I lose power while pulling away from a junction and then the engine light starts flashing and the dash displays 'Emissions Workshop'. Being an AA member I usually call them up and they have read the electronic code from the engine and replaced the problematic coil.
The 6th problem happened yesterday and the AA man told me he had never seen such a mismatch of coils. In fact he couldn't tell which coil type was meant to be there because none of them were the same! Anyway he told me the engine code (AZD) and said I ought to replaced all the coils and the plugs in one go and maybe to look on GSF for the correct parts. Then today it has had trouble starting. Requiring several attempts to get it going, but eventually it will. It doesn't appear to sound right, and the idle has always been a bit bouncy on the revs, but I'm not sure if I'm imagining the sounds and feel now that I think there is a problem!
Now I think I could replace the coils and plugs, but I am wondering if anyway has had an similar experiences, or general advice, as to whether I should do this myself or take it to a garage.
Couple of other points. It seems to go through exterior bulbs a lot (I was wondering if this could be all related to the electrics??). And finally I think it's always been filled with 95 RON fuel.
Thanks

In no particular order, these are some quite bad digital photos giving an extremely sketchy account of how carnival costumes are made, and the traffic situation outside the house where I live on 31 August.

Ah, found the thread at last.
Culturally interesting to a provincial, frogspawn and cowpat, chickens as model aircraft - bucolic local type like me. Missed a lot growing up. Thanks Lud.

Just noted ot an email from DVLA making me aware the above reg up for Oct sale. Reserve = £999, plus commission/vat/etc = about 1340 I think.
IMO, it may fetch about 5k plus vat, avd 80 quid Doe costs. What do you think? Read more
No chance MD! I don't use it but it is the "New" English!
I was thinking of changing car next spring, but I?m having second thoughts after yesterday?s CAP report saying that prices have been rising.
Are present values likely to hold, or could there be significant movement either way over the next 6 months?
Current car is a 2005 Seat Altea TDi.
Thanks. Read more
NW, that's just along the lines of what I usually do.
Next spring I'll have had the Altea for 4 years - about my normal length of ownership.
Hi,
I am in the process of buying a used Ford Mondeo Zetec from a franchised dealer this week (no financing, just a cash purchase). I paid the deposit today, will be paying the balance tomorrow and will be picking it up on Wednesday.
It is an 09 reg with about 5,000 on the clock. It is not a Ford Direct car but is an ex-demo car for the dealership.
This my first purchase of a car, so I just wondered if anybody had any advice for me in terms of what to expect on Monday (when I pay) and Wednesday (when I collect it), anything that I should do, and anything that I should watch out for.
Any advice would be really appreciated.
Many thanks in advance. Read more
paperwork should take 5 - 10 mins on a new car.
Thanks for the advice guys. I have created a new thread here:
www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?f=2&t=78...4
because this one is quite long and I wanted to raise this specific issue, since you guys have suggested something is strange (not sure if that is the done thing on this forum, so sorry if it isn't).
BTW it is a used car not sure if that makes much difference.
Thanks again for all your help.
Newish upmarket housing development, lots of new / nearly new cars and lots of young children and a few teenagers.
An 18 year old drives about faster than desirable, so a neighbour has a word with the parents. The parents take umbrage at ?this interference? in their son?s life.
A few weeks later AN Other neighbour sees another teenager, of the same family, breaking a great many laws. Knowing of the ?previous history? of complaining to the parents he decides to phone the Police.
In a month he hears nothing. Then, last week, out of the blue he gets a call from the local Constabulary - apologising for not investigating the matter raised in August.
The boy, age 15/16yrs had been caught by the Traffic Division driving his mother?s car on the open road. Exactly the information they had been given 3 weeks earlier that they had chosen to ignore or forget about!
The boy has now apparently been charged with Theft of a car, driving underage, no licence, no insurance??! And will appear before a Children?s Panel in the coming weeks
This is one of the Police Forces who have lots of Gatsos, ScammeraVans???????.In recent months there have been many court cases involving death on the road in the force area - usually young drivers and speeding. Read more
I think we're all in agreement...can't fault your logic.
I have Mont Blanc Roof Bars and Barracuda carriers. I am worried about leaving the carriers on the roof when we go for a cycle. The carriers are secured firmly to the roof bars but they are not locked. It is not difficult to remove them and make off with them. Does anyone know if I can purchase locks to get over this concern Read more
Aw now that's not fair !! I'm going to have to go outside, find a torch, mess about with my bars, get frustrated......drop the torch........

I am helping a friend out who has parked his car in a small garage for several months and been overseas. He is remaining overseas and is selling the car by SureSell. I have the keys and went this morning to start her up.
The battery is cmpletely flat. I tried jumping it from my Subuaru Outback. I attached the black cable from my negative terminal to the bodywork of the Merc. I attached the red cable from my positive terminal to a terminal on the Merc hiding under a red cover with a + sign on it. The dash lights flicker at regular intervals, but there is no sign of life.
The car is being collected on Tuesday by Suresell and they will bring a power pack with them, but is there any way of getting this working beforehand - I have little time to deal with it. Read more
go to mb forums via HJ link via 'car-by-car' and look up any merc and you will get link. i post there - when i got my first w203 merc over years ago, v helpful

Are you leaving it long enough to warm the glowplugs before starting the engine?
