Hi,
My Sharan started overheating beginning of April, it is now with the third mechanic! I have replaced the water pump and timing belt, the thermostat twice, heater radiator and then had the head gasket done but all to no avail. This mechanic has re-checked everything is in working order and also had the radiator and oil cooler high pressure tested but says they were perfect. I can drive it for up to two hours before it overheats although haven't driven it in 6 weeks. Can anyone pleeeeeeeeease help??
Thanks.

Went down to the bank and the shops today. Took some time to get out of our road and left onto the main road. The traffic was crawling along at about 2 mph.
As traffic turned off or stopped, I worked my way further up the queue. What did I find holding up the traffic ?...Two large horses, ridden side by side, with the riders busily chatting away.
The really annoying thing about it was, though, that they were two blonde girls, fully kitted out in police gear. Talk about selfish ! If a pal and I had done this on two motorbikes we would have done for driving without reasonable consideration.
The police stables are just round the corner from me and I can't ever remember them riding in single file.
I understand, from a mate who has a horse, that there is a law that lets riders do this so one horse can give confidence to t'other.
I 've also noticed, for some years, that the mounted branch now seems to be all young ladies.......In my day, you had to be about 6ft3in to be a mountie in this city.
Am I just cynical or I am right in thinking that the service is just a good way for a 'horse mad' girl to get a well paid job with the beasts rather than be a ' proper ' copper ?

I think we should consider banning horses from the highway, and while we are at it we could ban motorbikes, vans, lorries, buses, coaches, all diesel engined cars, all silver cars, all coloured cars, and all black and white cars should be governed to 40MPH.

A friend was recently in a car crash and I'm checking for some initial advice. TV advertising would suggest that I should just phone Claims 4U etc, but I'd like some reasoned advice first.
The crash was in Northern Ireland, it was a hire car, the car crashed into a wall on the left side, so the driver walked away without a scratch but those on the left (front and back) had to be cut out of the car and have various broken bones. The driver was arrested and has been released on bail and I believe has been charged with drink driving.
My friend is now likely to be stuck in bed for a number of weeks, unlikely to be able to work for a few months and we hope not but have been told that they won't have full mobility for at least a year.
I assume the lawyers would say sue the driver (well his insurers as they?re the ones with the money) for injuries, loss of current & future earnings, but if the driver is found guilty of drink driving will his insurance cover his passengers, or will they immediately wash their hands of the case?

I thought it was ilegal to get in a car with a driver which you
know is over the limit? Might be different in NI.
how would you know if the driver was over the drink drive limit without the availability of test equipment and training, even so to secure a conviction a second test has to be carried out at a police station on the more accurate testing machine
Runflats...i've had no experience of them, but i saw a remarkable sight on Monday.
As i bowled along the motorway inside lane at my frantic 53.8mph, i spied a newish 5 series BMW on the hard shoulder sporting 'Carlos Fandago' wheels or that's what it looked like as i approached.
The nsr wheel was sticking out some 4 or so inches outside of the wheelarch, but the tyre appeared to be supporting the car, the inside bead of the tyre seemed to be resting in the centre dish of the wheel.
I could clearly see the inside rim and about 4" more of the wheel, but the outside bead must have jumped off the rim and presumably by that point the driver must have realised something was amiss, and stopped.
I would imagine the wheelarch took a battering by the tyre, but that's probably of little concern in the grand scheme of things.
The car had stopped in a straight line and no one else was at the scene, except of course for the driver who was on the phone standing by their car (no not standing on the phone..;)
I wouldn't know what the lead up to this was, but it's made me a bit unwary of trusting a runflat to continue a journey safely.
Anyone had similar...was it indeed one of our merry crew? Read more
this is for honest john or anyone who has test drove the new volvo s80 (my10) today i have driven the new s80 2.0d se lux (my10) but when i was driving it a found a major problem ( i think its major) it felt like i was driving it with 4 flat tyres the handling was very bad. i pulled out to over take a car and it was all over the place. mainly over 60mph the slightest jolt on the streering wheel and it felt like i was snaking and lots of body roll. when i asked if it should drive like that i was told its the new supension set up. well all i can say is that if that is the case then i can see lots of buyers taking them back..... 500 mile journey yesterday threw up a problem on my Mondeo (147,000mls) Accelerated hard, changed gear, puff of black smoke out the back and then the turbo started to whine every time I accelerated.
Wondering if I put too much on the engine? Didn't hit the red line but really did go for it (Busy motorway overtake).
There is now a distinct lack of 'ommph' even though the turbo appears to be working and the whine sounds like a distant emergancy siren. Had it once with an old Vectra Di but never resolved the problem. Any body had a similar issue? Thanks for your help... Read more
Sounds like a pipe has come off or split, check from the turbo output to intercooler and intercooler to inlet manifold.

Most peoples air con probs are no cold air trust me to get it the other way round...... Read more
