March 2009
In 2009 the format, as in the past few years, has been AB09XYZ and later AB59XYZ.
What will happen next year when we introduce two digits into the equation. I can see, say, AB10XYZ but what will happen in that September (2010)? Read more
Hi,
Started car, radio on. Drove for 2 minutes, radio switched itself off / on, then ejected CD. Reloaded CD and selected a different preset station, found not to stored. Stopped car 10 minutes later fiddled with controls, again ejected CD by itself. Now it won't switch on at all. I've checked 12V supplies at input connectors OK, earth is OK. Could it be the removable security panel is faulty? are they repairable / a replaceable unit? Thanks in anticipation for any advice.

Check that the removable front panel is pushed right in. A car radio specialist or Ford dealer should be able to determine the cause and advise accordingly.
Hi again everyone.
My 2.0l Durateq Mondeo has started vibrating the steering wheel only on heavy braking at motorway speeds. In the past on my other cars, this has turned out to be seized caliper guide pins, but I believe worn discs can also be to blame. The pads all round were last changed 35k miles ago. The fronts pads still have 6.5mm of thickness, the discs appear ok, and the guide pins aren't seized. I haven't got the rear calipers off yet to inspect the pads and guide pins, but took the wheels off for a quick look and the rear discs look more worn than the fronts. Could this be the trouble do you think, as under heavy braking the rears are doing more work? Is there anything else I should check? If the rear discs are excessively worn, can I replace them without changing the pads, which I'm expecting to still have plenty of meat on them, or should I renew the pads with the discs?
thanks in advance

Wow, that is a very high milage for front discs!
Generally i have found that genuine manufacturers pads do last longer and have the right friction mix for the car. Even so called quality pads - Mintex, Bendix, Ferodo, etc, don't last as long and I have experienced fade with many "replacement" pads on my Honda and VW other than original. Although in your case (Ford) don't make the pads, they will be specified to an exact spec for the vehicle. Have also found more fit and forget ease with "genuine" pads - no fade, no stiction, no squeel, than even top name replacement parts. Price difference not that great either.
Need help in how to replace a diff in place on an M reg corsa, and how easy and quick it is to do?? Read more
The procedure will be similar, if not the same, as it was for me last week:

Why do you think you need to replace the diff?
If you start using donors, make sure you get the right one (i.e. F10, F13, F15 etc.). What is your engine code?
As above, maybe I am being dense, but what does it mean? Read more
I knew someone would beat me to it when I was typing!
This weekend I decided to drive down to my local Ford dealership for what I assumed was a straight forward question - "How much could I expect to receive in part-ex value against a new car" and specified the model I was after" .I was told I would have to start a sales process first which involved all my details recorded ,inspection of my car , test drive of new car , etc, etc. The salesman was quite insistent and gave me the impression my query was wasting his time unless I was going to go through their process . I hope to be changing my car soon , but it certainly will not be through that particular dealership again.

Maybe part of the problem is that all these people who have acquired management or business qualifications, even MBAs maybe, only actually know about administration - not getting the job done or the product sold. All they want to do is work to a system rather than doing scary things like negotiating or making decisions.
As an aside, I bought a couple of brake light bulbs for the Prelude at the local Honda dealer back along, spent two minutes giving my name and address for the invoice and have been the regular recipient of really attractive cut-price service and parts offers from Honda France ever since.
Hi All
Has anyone got experience of a complaint against a well known national windscreen company.
I had some theft damage to my car, - front passenger window and rear window. The car was on the garage having some associated wokd done due to the damage which I was paying privately as less than my excess
The company were arranged through my broker - to come out to the garage and replace the windows.
Anyway - I had the work done while at the garage and picked the car up. On inspector the work done by the windscreen company as I was not on site when they were done, the guy who replaced the front windscreen, has damaged the out seal that's on the edge of the window on the outside. Where he has taken off the broken glass he's cut one of the edging seals slightly and where this seal was sticking to the black coating that is on the front of the door , has peeled off a bit.
At the same time, which I checked with the garage, he left my car ignition on and drained my car battery. It now wont hold a charge.
I know the damage to the door seal etc was not done by the thieves who did the damage to my glass as inspected the vehicle in te garage a day after the incident.
Question, as I was not there when the work was done, have I a leg to stand on if I complain to them?

In our 2000 Honda Civic, we had the battery run down through an interior light being left on whilst the car was garaged, and the battery was damaged. When we had the AA come out, he tested the battery and confirmed it would hold charge. He did also confirm that some modern batteries do have problems holding charge once sufferinmg a full discharge.

I think this is better, even if I say so myself!
