Model Polo S 1.4 TD Oct 06

I knew a hatch/boot light was not an original fitment when I bought it.. But it seems a paradox that you get heated and remote door mirros but no light in the boot/hatch?

It is 'standard' on the SE bt colud not get one at the time.. just upgraded an S instead to near SE spec.

However, the S model must be wired for the light fitting even if it is not fitted..

Anyone fitted this light aftermarket? Also I'm not positive about this but does the SE have a 12V cigar lighter type socket too.. wolud be very useful for me.. charging photo equipment batteries etc while travelling.

I used to be a mechanic years ago, so although things have changed a lot since I'm confident in doing most work inc electrics properly (using quality connectors if necessary) with proper wiring advice.

Any advice welcome.

Yes it is strange. I bought SWMBO a Polo Twist 2 years ago and paid extra for the interior light pack, which gave front and rear roof lights, map light and vanity mirror lights but no boot light!!

Had the deep joy of driving (sorry, creeping) along the M62 on Friday from Leeds. It was busy the whole way, with the speed ranging from about 5mph up to 40 or 50. I picked the middle lane and drifted along, leaving a wide gap between me and the car in front, which brings me to my point:

If I'm doing 30mph in my lane and YOUR lane (blue Ford Focus in particular) comes to a halt, my gap is not your acceleration lane. Do not think that because your indicator is on that you are perfectly entitled to just pull out, forcing me to stamp on my brakes and making the jam worse behind me. During the hour I was on that road, I stayed in my lane and you leap-frogged your way along, annoying other drivers and taking risks. At the end of it? I was ahead of you by about 50 feet. So there.

One of these days I'm going to buy an old landie with huge bull bars and the next time this happens, my foot might not get to the brake pedal fast enough. Since you pulled out in front of me, you'll be the one to blame, and I might have to clean your paint off my metalwork.

What else really annoys you when driving?

Oh - one other thing. During my trip I saw a car on the hard shoulder with a nasty dent in the back with a traffic officer parked behind him. Shortly ahead I noticed another car driving very erratically, and coincidentally with a matching dent in his front bumper. I suspect the two are relevant, since the car I spotted was in immaculate condition apart from the hole on his bumper. I got his number plate, should I pass it on to anyone? Read more

Middle lane????
Where I come from there is a lane in each direction, and the middle lane between the white lines is for motorbikes.

I'm selling my camper - too slow, I've decided, and not much use outside the summer months. I'm buying a classic caravan, a 1969 Eriba, from Holland, and I'd like a suitable car to tow it. I realise that the 123 is a bit later, but I do like the look of them. Like most things, it seems there's a range from £300 for a rot box to £lots for a full restoration.

Just to add - the petrol 4-pots at this time had single width camchains, which do stretch and wear. Can be changed DIY, did it myself a long time ago, but don't have the same nerve these days.

The 6-pot 280 e has a duplex chain, less likely to ever require attention as long as the old beast got the odd oil change.

Really comfy cars, especially if you're tall. Big armrest and huge sunroof, they make excellent cruisers. Buy on condition, mileage really is irrelevant at this age. 500,000 miles? so what! If it's in good fettle, that's all that matters.

The 4-door models are not to be overlooked, very smart in a good colour.

The wife is waiting for her provisional d/licence, I have been looking around for a reversing sensor that might prevent dome damage.I am considering the
" Meta Targa" which appears to be an easy fit.
The rear number plate on my vehicle is not vertical, in fact it has an incline towards the front of the vehicle. I am wondering has anyone fitted on of these ? do they work as claimed and does it matter if the number plate is not verticale ? My car is a VW Golf MK.4

thank you all Read more

It may be worth asking at your local VW outlet, talking to a sales guy about them, they are a £150.00 retro fit on the MK5. What he told me was that if they are optional extras the wiring already exists and it's only a matter of drill, connect and activate.

The abs light is on and a unipart computer says its a front sensor.
Ive tested both front sensors which both give a voltage reading when the wheel is turned but only one shows a resistance of just over 1000 ohms.
The other shows zero.

I cant understand why, if theres no resistance how it can still give a voltage reading of approx 0.4v.

Does anyone know how to remove the sensors without having to smash and drill it out, as its a plastic moulding fitted into a deep rusty casting.

Will the light go out if replaced or do I have to have the codes cleared by the dealer.

Thanks

Hi Guys,

Can anyone comment on the suggestion that adding small amounts of acetone to your fuel will produce 10-30% increases on your mpg.

Is this fact or fiction?

I've done some reaserch but am not yet that convinced to stick some in my Clio. If the chemistry behind the theory is correct then there should be no reason why this isn't true.

Your views/experiences will be most welcome. Any chemistry experts who can prove/disprove the chemical theory behind doing this?

Mark.

There is a huge thread related to this :-

Have a look, I found that adding 1ml per litre to my Audi 1.9 TDI had a very immediate 2-3 mpg increase, but on our petrol Focus there was no discernible effect using 2.5ml per litre.

Around Gloucester, a large number of roads have been reduced from national speed limit to 50mph. These include a dual carriageway stretch of the A40 in a rural area with only two or three right turnings, all with dedicated filter lanes. At busy times this limit makes no difference anyway, whilst at quiet times it has made the road more dangerous in my opinion as everyone trundles along in clusters of cars dreading the sight of a speed camera. (The nature of the approach roads mean that traffic tends to arrive in bunches, ie all being held at traffic lights). Many other A roads have been similarly blighted, without any particular history of speed related casualties that I know of.

Who decides the speed limit on trunk roads - the Highways Agency or county authorities? Either way, the NSL is an endangered species in this part of the world, the motorway will seemingly soon be the only place where > 50mph is deemed safe.

Just today I was about 10th in a line behind a 40mph dawdler on the 50mph A38 between Tewkesbury and Gloucester - the couple of cars that did overtake presumably had to break the speed limit to complete what should have been a piece-of-cake safe manouevre, or they had to spend greater time on the opposite side of the road, increasing danger and reducing the overtaking opportunities for the cars behind (hence increased frustration). EU Directive. All member states have to analyse every 'death or serious injury' and do something (or be seen to be doing something) about it.
I read about it recently on some council's website while looking for something else.

Wondered if anyone could help and offer a suggestion as I'm really at my wits end and drawing blanks!

My 95 306 xsi 8v dies two weeks after I got it....and no-one can fix it!

Peugeot charged me £110 to say they didn't know, two other garages don't know...my mate works for the RAC and has replaced the lambda sensor and cat and still not happening!

It's running badly and just will not go past 3000rpm...where the engine tone dips then struggles....

It's got a rattle somewhere and after I put oil in it, it turned the water like chocolate milkshake..although it hasn't lost compression or over heats at all????

HELP!!! It's cost me £250 to get nowhere and I'm serioulsy considering blowing it up!!!

Cheers,

Evening everyone. Unfortunately SWMBO's car was keyed last week. Deep scratch about 40cm long across the rear nearside door. I've had Chips Away round to look at it but it's too deep for a "smart" repair so a full door respray is necessary. I've had a reasonable quote from a local firm so will be looking to get them to do the work. Problem is, I only bought the car a month ago and paid quite a bit for it so am nervous about getting an A1 job done.

What should I be looking for when picking a bodyshop and also when I pick the car up afterwards.

Opinions please.

Thanks. Read more
