Took the family down to the New Forset for a picnic yesterday, and the traffic on the M27 and the traffic through Lyndhurst reached new heights of horrendousness.
I know Lyndhust has always been bad, but yesterday it took us 45 mins just to do the 3 miles from the M27 to the otskirts of the town (A337), not to mention the time it took us to cover the bit of the M27 from the M3.
Has anyone else experienced this torture lately ?
Unfortunately, it is difficult to get most places down there unless you go thro Lyndhurst, unless you go miles out of your way and then get caught on the approaches to Bournemouth.
I will certainly think twice about ever visiting this area again, even though it is not far. Read more
My son's 1.4 Saxo Furio has developed a fuel leak from the connection of the fuel line to the injector rail. Is it easy to remove & replace the pipe and or the connector or does the fuel system have to be depressurised?
Thanks

Hi,
Its a V reg year 2000, I found the leak yesterday and with the engine stopped I twisted & pushed the connector and after starting the engine the fuel no longer leaked but this morning I checked again and the leak reappeared after starting the engine. The injector rail appears to be plastic.

Hi
I was wondering if it is possible to do a DIY air-con condenser change.
We've had two quotes with one just under £500 and the other between £450 - 600 depending on whether the part is a cheap pattern with 0 warranty or a genuine one with 1 year warranty.
I don't know how much work it involves but condensers are on eBay for £160 and about the same from AutoVaux.
According to Haynes it looks like a couple of hours reasonably straightforward work to get access to the condenser & dryer BUT I have no idea how to disconnect their pipes from the rest of the AC system and more importantly perhaps how do you reconnect the pipes to give a good seal? Haynes says you need to get a qualified person to replace o-rings. Is it really hard to change the o-ring or is it hard to obtain them?

GM in common with most car manufacturers use a variety of male/female threaded union connectors together with the more modern "pad" type joint where the 2 faces of the joint are of male/female construction but held together with 1 bolt, and sealed with an o.ring.Condensors do not usually come with the reqd o-ring seals ,these have to be bought seperately. You will also need torx/star drive tools to complete the job.hth
Hi,
I have a P reg 1.1i Saxo which started off by not accelerating properly. It would judder and jump down the road no matter how much gas you gave it.
It now shakes and rattles itself to a complete stop even when trying to idle.
It only started doing a week or so ago and now shakes itself so much that it cuts out on the motorway.
Any help at all would be appreciated!!!!
Thanks :) Read more
not sure if the 1.1 engine has one but alot of idle control valves fail on peugeot/citroen engines causing similer problems, there usually situated near the inlet manifold and can sometimes be fixed by cleaning with carb cleaner(do not use wd40 the silione content just blocks the icv up again quite quickly) or replacements are around £30

I have always liked the look of these, rather than the normal coupe/saloon version.
However, I don't really know much about them and would value any advice. My intention would be to run one for 3-5 years / 50-75k miles. I would be spending around 6K.
Are they a reasonable prospect at this price or is it all image? Which engine would be best, etc?
What I am getting at is the question of whether a 3 Series Touring is a viable and reasonable proposition when compared to a straight, run-of-the-mill, family car. For example, if I get a newer, high mileage example to reduce the cost, could I expect reasonable service from it for the above period, whilst at the same time driving a good quality and capable vehicle that has already suffered a great deal of its depreciation in somebody else?s hands.
The image/status/prestige isn't that important but service and quality is, hence looking at what I think would be a 'hard wearing' car.

Get a Renault and run it until it breaks, then throw it away.
Much more comfortable than a BM, cheaper than a Ford, and better styling than either.
in 2 minds at the moment onto that to do ..
in the last few posts i indicated that I bought a Xsara HDI and got stiched up big time with the probs etc.,... I have decided to sell it before its going to cost me even more to fix etc...
My dad has a Rover 420 V reg 2.0, its areal shame to sell it when he gets his merc eventually since he paid 13k for it when new. Onl;y done 50k and I know the car cos i have done most of the work on it.
I can either LPG it, or now find myself a cheap diesel (sub 1k) with a bosch pump (i.e. 306, 106 etc...) and run a 50/50 mix or even look into waste cooking oil as my dad runs a restaurant anyway (i know oil needs to be treated before going into the tank).
If I choose the diesel option, I would like minimal conversion, single tank only.. But my driving styles is like this... I do about 400 miles a week, mostly short journey, not sure if the veggie oil is a good option for it....
But the LPG option will cost about the same, conversion i have been quoting about 1k, if its the same consumption, then I will be looking at 7p / mile on a rover 420 or similar for a diesel...
Can someone shed some light??

Model Polo S 1.4 TD Oct 06
I knew a hatch/boot light was not an original fitment when I bought it.. But it seems a paradox that you get heated and remote door mirros but no light in the boot/hatch?
It is 'standard' on the SE bt colud not get one at the time.. just upgraded an S instead to near SE spec.
However, the S model must be wired for the light fitting even if it is not fitted..
Anyone fitted this light aftermarket? Also I'm not positive about this but does the SE have a 12V cigar lighter type socket too.. wolud be very useful for me.. charging photo equipment batteries etc while travelling.
I used to be a mechanic years ago, so although things have changed a lot since I'm confident in doing most work inc electrics properly (using quality connectors if necessary) with proper wiring advice.
Any advice welcome.

Yes it is strange. I bought SWMBO a Polo Twist 2 years ago and paid extra for the interior light pack, which gave front and rear roof lights, map light and vanity mirror lights but no boot light!!

As I've often said before, the motto I was always taught was: "Speed in the right place, at the right time."

What\'s for you won\'t pass you by
Had the deep joy of driving (sorry, creeping) along the M62 on Friday from Leeds. It was busy the whole way, with the speed ranging from about 5mph up to 40 or 50. I picked the middle lane and drifted along, leaving a wide gap between me and the car in front, which brings me to my point:
If I'm doing 30mph in my lane and YOUR lane (blue Ford Focus in particular) comes to a halt, my gap is not your acceleration lane. Do not think that because your indicator is on that you are perfectly entitled to just pull out, forcing me to stamp on my brakes and making the jam worse behind me. During the hour I was on that road, I stayed in my lane and you leap-frogged your way along, annoying other drivers and taking risks. At the end of it? I was ahead of you by about 50 feet. So there.
One of these days I'm going to buy an old landie with huge bull bars and the next time this happens, my foot might not get to the brake pedal fast enough. Since you pulled out in front of me, you'll be the one to blame, and I might have to clean your paint off my metalwork.
What else really annoys you when driving?
Oh - one other thing. During my trip I saw a car on the hard shoulder with a nasty dent in the back with a traffic officer parked behind him. Shortly ahead I noticed another car driving very erratically, and coincidentally with a matching dent in his front bumper. I suspect the two are relevant, since the car I spotted was in immaculate condition apart from the hole on his bumper. I got his number plate, should I pass it on to anyone? Read more
Middle lane????
Where I come from there is a lane in each direction, and the middle lane between the white lines is for motorbikes.
I'm selling my camper - too slow, I've decided, and not much use outside the summer months. I'm buying a classic caravan, a 1969 Eriba, from Holland, and I'd like a suitable car to tow it. I realise that the 123 is a bit later, but I do like the look of them. Like most things, it seems there's a range from £300 for a rot box to £lots for a full restoration.

Just to add - the petrol 4-pots at this time had single width camchains, which do stretch and wear. Can be changed DIY, did it myself a long time ago, but don't have the same nerve these days.
The 6-pot 280 e has a duplex chain, less likely to ever require attention as long as the old beast got the odd oil change.
Really comfy cars, especially if you're tall. Big armrest and huge sunroof, they make excellent cruisers. Buy on condition, mileage really is irrelevant at this age. 500,000 miles? so what! If it's in good fettle, that's all that matters.
The 4-door models are not to be overlooked, very smart in a good colour.
The rules of Grammar require the full stop - and imo looks neater ;)
