Hi all,
Could someone please tell me whether the condition of the front foglights is a testable item? I vaguely remember one place (4-ish years ago) failing my car due to a cracked glass, whereas the place I've used for the last two (a different car) have not said anything about both lights being broken! This garage has since closed, otherwise I'd have taken the car there.....
Over the years, I must have had ten or more front foglights broken - no doubt due to their low-down positioning) - so I've been inclined to not bother any more. I never thought they were much use anyway! Read more
My Clutch failed to return back up today for about 10 minutes it was stuck at the floor position.
It eventually returned either on its own or because I pulled it not sure.
Its a VW passat TDI 2002 model. {Added to subject header to help catch the eye of your target audience - DD}
Does this sound like anything to worry about?
Hyrdaulic block maybe?
Thanks, its being serviced next week so I'll get it checked

Very common on Lagunas the answer with them is to replace the valve and piping as it is all in one unit and takes a very short time to fit. When the pedal was stuck down I assume the actual clutch was engaged.
May be doing some simple servicing on SWMBO Mazda in future. Haynes do not do a manual.
Any alternative data sources?
Already changed air filter- no tools needed and took all of 30 seconds.
Thanks.

Just wondering if it's worth trying to do my 2000 1.9HDi Citroen Synergie's brake pads myself - has anyone got any experience in doing this job themselves? Or am I just tight. It's just hit 98,500 miles and I felt a distinct rubbing under heavy braking, braking has been poor of late, and I think may be almost down to the metal.
Are any specialist tools needed, I know some makes need a tool for the job?
Thanks. Read more
No special tools very straight forward job .

You will never find out for certain until you have it plugged into the dianostic computer unless it is something obvious like a loose cable but as the car is running OK revert to suggestion 1.
Just wondering if the battery is on its last legs. The background is:
I wanted to wash the car yesterday afternoon so had to move the car a short distance (15m). No problem so far. I had the doors open only whilst leathering off the door closures - probably about 20W with interior and kerb lights on. I don;t expect this to be a problem.
At the end I thought I would check the lights and here noticed a parking lamp out so I removed the bits and pieces to gain access and remove the main beam connector. Sorted the problem and put everything back together. Re-checking the lights and main beam I had to put the headlights on. The offside lamp was flickering - my headlamps are HIDs so was fearing the worst.
I then went to start the car and everything dropped out but I managed to get her started with some perseverance - radio in safe mode and the idle a little lumpy but soon settled down. I took the car for a spin for a few miles and all is well.
I started the car without problem this morning.
A couple of years ago I had a similar problem and the fault was traced to a sticking throttle body. The mechanic told me that moving the car short distances is not good for the car in col weather - yesterday was much warmer than on that occasion.
S, two questions:
Is the battery failing?
Is there anything associated with the throttle body that might present a load to the main battery causing a drain?
Thanks for any ideas. Read more
Exactly,my Escort TD with seven year old battery still sits outside for upto two weeks at a time but I won't change the the battery till I get serious problems.
About 6 months ago my 00 reg A4 Tdi developed a slight cracking/clicking noise around the front of the car. Over time the noise got more noticeable. It is only noticeable when turning right at low speed on sharp turns such as car park ramps, going around small roundabouts or turning right from stationary (No trace of noise when turning left) I previously had a Passat with similar trouble which was sucessfully identified as a worn CV joint..
I had the passenger side (Outer) CV joint replaced on the A4 at the weekend.... unfortunately, I still have the problem! .... could the inner CV joint be the problem?, could the new part be defective? ...... any suggestions ? Read more
Thanks AC, will do a check with dealer regarding possible recall
As strange as it seems i need to know which is the positive wire on an old nokia charger? There is a black and black and white wire moulded together that would normally go into the piece that would go into the car cigarette lighter.
All advice gratefully recieved. Read more
Bung a needle into the middle, then check whether it's positive using a voltmeter. Occasional ones do have +ve on the outside, so don't just assume. The cost of a mistake is much more than the cost af a cheap multimeter.

They used to but the factory went bust and bits are hard to get. If you can find out generic bits which are common with the Suzuki alto from which the drivetrain wasderived from, then you will be lucky. The Spark is about to be launched but GM bits cost...

I repaired my Fiat doors with "flashing" tape;thin aluminium with sticky backing normally used by builders.
