Looks like grey import dealers might be in trouble with the manufacturers again. Mitsubishi GB and Toyota GB are taking action against UK dealers selling new pickups originally destined for the Thai market. Manufacturers are always such great proponents of globalisation - so long as it works in their favour....

Is the E class currently built in South Africa? I was aware that the C class was built there, but was always under the impression that all other models were built in Germany. Read more
I do not think there is quality issue between different MB plants (any sensible manufacturer would standardise on quality control). What I think has happened over the past few years is that MB has opted to use cheaper materials (cheap plastics, thus cutting down overall production costs - making their cars (at least some ranges) more affordable.

A good way to check on where the water is entering is to use talcum powder. Sprinkle it over the general area where you think the water is entering. Any water entry will be shown by the powder being washed away, so just trace the trail. Once located you can then vacuum the unused powered. This trick is used in boats to locate a leak.

Scientific experts were examining the car yesterday. A length of rope that was found attached to the back could yield vital DNA and help to solve the mystery.

Are there any places online that will post car fluids such as coolant, PAS fluid, gearbox oil etc?
I detest going to Halfords and always seem to run out of time to go to the Peugeot dealer...for the sake of a few quid P&P this would be much convenient.

I do not have to take the bus home after dropping off the car
Agreed. Oil change one weekend. Change brake fluid on another. Plugs when plug mileage comes up and it is a nice day , etc.
SWMBO is viewing some at the weekend, 97-99 models and I would appreciate any advice on what to look out for. Have read HJ report and various articles and know about the spark plug issue and rusting around petrol cap...
Would you advise her to replace the spark plugs straight away as a matter of course. She wants the central locking version, the mark 2??? Whichever one she gets it has to be an improvement on her metro! Read more
Good luck with the car. My wife's had her Ford Ka for three and a half years now and doesn't want to swap it for anything else. No technical problems apart from the aircon needing to be recharged and no rust anywhere. I wasn't that impressed when she originally bought the car but it's turned out to be much more robust than I ever would have expected. It's also surprising fun to drive, though having just come back from an extended stay in the US, it does feel incredibly small.

What\'s for you won\'t pass you by
Hello to all, this is the first time I have posted on this site so you will have to bear with me,I hope you can help me in my quest to sort out the problem with my Rover Diesel.
My problem is this, when you are accelerating it suddenly dies,as if you have turned the ignition off,it can be in any gear,if I take my foot off the accelerator and put it back on the power comes back, when it does it if you press the pedal down further it just keeps dieing until you raise the pedal and depress it again then it runs fine again. It ticks over fine.
I have found it tends to do it around 1800 RPM onwards,if you raise the revs to around 3000-3500RPM you can feel the engine labouring,if you open the throttle quick there is less chance of it doing it.I have replaced the MAF sensor which helped with the general performance of the car but the fault is still there,I have also changed the fuel filter, the Throttle position sensor, the EGR valve and checked the air cleaner,I have visually checked the pipes to the turbo and made sure the wastegate isn't sticking.Has anyone got any thoughts on this as it is annoying. When it is running fine, which is most of the time it is great, returning 52MPG.
Thanks in advance Andrew... Read more
Hi chaps,
I just wanted to bring you up to date with my earlier running problems, they were all down to my brakelights coming on.I checked the pedal adjustment and the lights were coming on with the slightest pressure on the pedal,it was adjusted so the lights would sometimes flicker when driving along.I adjusted the switch so the pedal needs more movement to bring the lights on.For those of you that don't know, when the brakelight pedal is pressed on Rovers with the "L" series engine the fuel is cut to the pump.
Thanks Andrew...
I do like my Diesels to be Turbocharged for that extra OOMPH!!!!
My car is currently in for service and they have phoned to say I need 2 new front tyres. Car has done 17500 miles.
1. Is this normal mileage for a set of tyres, they are not low profile or anything? Thought I used to get much more out a pair of tyres.
2. They are quoting me £82.62 per tyre (Continentals) which are what is on just now. I will phone round for prices but does anyone know if that is a good price and whether I should stay with Contis or move to some other make? Read more
Normally 1.6 mm.
www.kwik-fit.com/changing-tyres.asp
It used to be 1 mm before the law was changed. If you've got old tyres fitted, they may still have 1 mm thread wear indicators.
Lots of tyre companies recommend tyres should be changed when they've worn down to 2 mm though.

Apologies if so. I didn't spot it.
