Has anyone here bought used from Lloyds Car Select? Read more
We have three grown up boys who are now adult-sized. Since we drive quite a lot, we need something that can take plenty of luggage and has 5 comfortable adult-sized seats.
We have had a Galaxy, so far and it fails on both of those: the luggage is too small and, while the front seats are ok, all 5 rear seats are too small for adults.
Added to all that, my wife does not want to drive anything as long as a Grand Voyager and, besides, we don't need 7 seats - only 5!
So, have any of you knowledgeable experts out there got any ideas?
I have looked at large saloons, but they never have three real seats in the back. And my eldest would not be seen dead in a Multipla (well, the old one anyway)!

Honda FRV? Or for real width a Jaguar Mk X!
You can't get quicker than a Kwik-Fit fitter... Or so the ad say's.
The other day I got told to come in at 1.30 for a new exhaust. When I got there they told me they don't book cars in, it's a first come first serve service. Very odd! Anyway, I finally got away at 5.10pm after waiting with about 10 other people in a gold fish bowl office. As this Kwik-Fit was out of town there was nowhere to go or nothing to do. It was the most tedious 3hrs & 40mins of my life.
I went with Kwik-Fit as I have K-F car insurance and get 10% off at all there garages. I think I will pay the extra just to get away quicker (or booked in properly) next time.
Can anyone beat my 3hrs & 40mins of waiting hell? Read more
I had an exhaust fitted at a Ford main dealer a lot cheaper than KF . In view of this fact I thought I,d pop back and ask if KF had made a mistake. They just said you must have the wrong exhaust. The exhaust is the genuine Ford back and center box. It was fitted 3years ago and has never been a problem. So I don,t think people are choosing a cheap option when going to KF just a possibly more convenient one.
I heard this morning that the M6 from past Stafford to after Birmingham is to close for three weeks. All traffic to be routed via the M6 Toll. Read more
Yes, I guess it was a bit obvious.
In the region of Jct 18 M4 they have begun a nine month road widening project. Three lanes are present but for four miles the speed restriction is down to 40mph, backed up by permanent speed cameras.
Does anyone know why such a low limit is in place bearing in mind that last year's project involved a 50mph restriction?
It was rather galling to run along at 40mph being overtaken by HGVs doing 50+. Do they have exemptions? Read more
That'll be a 40mph minimum - I was very nearly run off the road last time when I tried to keep at 50. The speed cameras are (as of today) still covered which might explain the HGV's doing 50+. I'm looking forward to a few games of "speed camera chicken" with the non-commuters :)
I had my diesel car serviced the other day and when travelling at 70mph it is not long afore the ''hi oil'' warning comes on, slowing down to 50 the warning goes off so I am returning to the garage to have a little oil drained off. What damage does too much engine oil do to a diesel car? Read more
They say check 5 minutes after a run, with the car on

Same on the Fiat group 2.4JTD as fitted to the Marea and Alfa 156.
I got thinking on this last night and was wondering why tubeless tyres?
I do a lot of mountain biking and recently tubeless tyres have become available on top end competition bikes. One of which I own. They argue, better puncture resistance and better ride.
I was wondering if anyone knew why cars are fitted with tubeless tyres and what the advantages are?
I would have thought it would make more sense in a puncture (car or bike) to replace the tube, than try and repair the tyre?
When I last got a puncture on my car, I was told it couldn't be repaired because it was tubeless and a repair wasn't suitable due to the position of the puncture. When I asked if a tube could be used, I was told it couldn't.
Any thoughts on why tubeless tyres on cars.

You'll probably find that the tubes come with tyre clamps as well, where you have to drill the wheels and insert a couple of these to clamp the tyre to the rim to stop the wheel just spinning within the tyre when the pressure is reduced to almost nothing.
Enjoyed BMW's sense of humour in its Daily Mail advertisement today - will no doubt catch a few out at first...:-)

Hi all
6 months ago I bought a new 206 1.4 HDi (the one with the green i if that makes a difference). I have since done 3500 miles but am surprised that during that time I have never got better than 55mpg (brim to brim checking)- is this normal for this car? I have driven a Focus 1.6 TDCi and got over 60mpg so was expecting better from this car, certinaly high 60's on a run!
Can I really expect fuel consumption to increase by 10-15mpg as the engine loosens up to start getting even close to the manufacturers figures?
Many of my journeys have been long and I have delibertaely tried to keep the engines revs low and just stretch the car from time to time to clean the injectors. However this brings me to my next point. At low revs I seem to have very little torque and the engine seems to labour. By low I mean anything less than 1600rpm which means at 30mph I have to be in third and at 40mph I have to be in fourth if I change up any earlier the engine feels very unhappy - is this normal? I would have expected to be in fourth at 30mph and 5th at 40mph. Obviously having to be in the highers gears doesn't help my fuel consumption problem!
I would appreciate any thoughts/advice
Many thanks

3.5k? It will still be as tight as a water tight part of a Duck's anatomy! Make sure you are exercising the full rev range occasionally (after it has warmed up of course!).
Plus, low revs do NOT necessarily equal best fuel economy. Peak torque on this engine will be around 1800 rpm, and this is where best fuel economy will occur - so always try and stick to this rev figure by careful gear selection - you'll soon get used to it, and it's probably something easy like 3rd for 30, 4th for 40, 5th for 50 or higher. If the engine is labouring, change down - it's the worst thing you can do to an engine whilst running it in. I wouldn't expect max economy to be reached until after the first service, and even then only if you tweak your driving to suit the engine.

Is it illogical? It must be Citroen....
Got to check out the above ,engine only revving to 2-3,000 I have been told a common fault is the diaphram in the primer pump could be split . Sounds feesable any other ideas please , cheers ? Read more
To save you all from rushing to reply...........and to answer my own question , and tie up the loose ends , it was the primer approx. £60 from Ford and I charged £20 for fitting and bleeding through fuel whilst jump-starting engine . Bargain eh ?
Probably. I haven't though :-)
