Bromptonaut

I'm sure this has come up before but can't find anything on a search.

Joined the M1 from the M18 last night c17:15. Shortly afterwards overheads advise queue ahead and advisory 40. Road heavily congested and moving at around 35 - 45. Eventually, somewhere by East Mids Airport, pass a multi wheel trailer hauled by a large tractor unit branded for a maker of trains and power transmission gear occupying lane one and almost (a clue to the guilty firm!) half of lane two. Presumably returning from a job since its load would comfortably have fitted on a flat bed Transit. Thereafter traffic thinned remarkably and covered the last hour to j16 at about the legal limit.

Is there any control on when these things are allowed out to play or can the operators mess up other people’s journeys as they please?

Dwight Van Driver

These are Special Vehicles because their width exceeds that allowed by Con and Use Regs and as such are governed by their own Regulations - Authorisation of Special Types Regs.

They have to give 48 hours notice of movement on a special form to Police and Highways of each and every area they pass through.

Before moving off the driver usually contacts the Police Control Room at the start of the journey and each area through which it travels. Then the movement is vetted and:

Movement put on hold if some special circumstance/problems are present on the route, or

Police Escort/Highways Agency(MWay) arranged, or

depending on width and area involved, allowed to travel on its own.

Hello,

'95 Cavalier with ABS warning light on, ABS is not working.
One puzzling thing is that Haynes says "All models with ABS.....front and rear discs". Mine defo has drums and shoes on the rear.

Does that mean that there are no ABS sensors at the back as this appears to be the first place to look?

Also, do you have to prise apart the sensors to clean them or just get all the accumulated rubbish away and give the outside a clean?,

Thanks

Ellis

I am on the lookout for a newish 2.0 litre Mondeo (pref diesel). However I am still a little confused over the Ford warranty.

If I buy a year old Mondeo will it definitely come with the balance of the three year Ford Warranty. If it is slightly over a year old will it depend on if it has had it's yearly Ford dealer service.

The cause of my confusion is when I recently attempted to part/ex a two and a half year old Focus. The dealer told me it may not have come with a 3 year warranty if it had been a company or lease car (it was) as often they are bought in bulk with one year warranties. I had assume that all UK spec Focuses would have had the 3 year warranty.

Any advice gratefully recieved.

Cheers - Andy

You're right, LongDriver. Memory playing tricks and I got the limited/unlimited mileage options the wrong way round.

Always paid with cash in over 20 transactions over the years. Never had problem, pay by cash and sale is over.. finished.. Chances of being mugged? lets be realistic it's virtually nil isn't it?
