What is it about 'imports' that causes all of the problems with selling them on. If a car is RHD, just where was it destined for in the first place? Why are they always considered to be inferior to cars that are not imports? Isn't a car manufactured abroad an import by definition anyway, if it is sold in this country?

A friend was given an 02 diesel Veccy as his company car. After a 200 mile trip he parked it outside a friend\'s house. 3 hours later it was still there. However next morning it had gone.
Pacing up and down the road, smoking furiously, he found the car at the bottom of the hill, lodged against a tree. He assumed it had been broken into, but there were no signs, and the steering lock was still on. However, the handbrake was in the fully \"off\" position. He maintains that he put the handbrake on, he MUST have done, otherwise the car would have rolled away earlier.
Has anyone come across this with Vectras? (The dealer said that \"this can happen after long journeys when the brakes get hot, then as they cool they shrink, thus releasing the handbrake\". It was at that point that I wondered whether this was a car dealer or a dealer in exotic substances...)
This happened in January and the car is still with a Vauxhall repair shop in Scotland. Apparently Vectras are put together with some special equipment which \"wasn\'t in the country\", and once it arrived the dealer had to send his people on training, and now they are all trained and raring to go but they are awaiting delivery of rods. This sounds like one of the most drawn out pathetic excuses I have heard for poor customer service, but maybe there is some truth in it?
10 weeks - and they only offered him a very small car for a limited period...luckily the company has got him a Skoda Octavia turbo, which seems pretty good. Read more
I was taught, about a million years ago, to always leave the car in gear with the wheels pointing in towards the kerb. Early Morris Minors and Ford Pops had less than effective hand brakes. Come to that their foot brakes were not that brilliant either!
For reasons which I won't go in to I am currently spending a lot of time on the motorways of our fair land.
I have commented before on lane discipline but the lastest change is use of the hard shoulder.
Now if the traffic is stationary for any length of time there is a constant stream of traffic using the hard shoulder to zip past. Maybe they are getting off at the next exit or maybe they are forcing their way in further on.
On Sunday 6th March when an accident closed the M1 southbound between J14 and J13 the hard shoulder up to J14 was blocked as well as the main carriageway!
Obviously this did not auger well for emergency vehicles.
A sign of the rising level of frustration amongst motorists or a sign of the more general breakdown in law and order in this country I wonder?

Mix of ignorance and disregard. Need to watch out before joining the M1 h/s, Cowans/Freeways tow trucks can seriously spoil your day
Hello,
I just bought a Fiesta 1.4 with Tiptronic Transmission. Car is second hand but it\'s mileage is only at 2300km round the clock.
My problem is about the ignition. Usually after half an hour break between driving, it happens. The engine cranks but not fire and fails to start. It may take 2-3 times to retry. After that engine starts slowly. It does not happen all the time.
The most important thing is I spoke with the first owner to know why she sold the car only after using 2 months! She said the car does not start at first run after she stops for supermarket. Which also happened to me. I have read Mondeo and Focus boards and tried to get something out for me but, I don\'t think my problem is same. May be using 2 micron filter might be the solution. The first owner said they took the car to Ford and asked to have this fixed and they could not! I suppose they have decided to re-sell it without fixing the problem after 8.5 months of doing nothing.
If you have the same car you would ofcourse know but, I will write again for those who may not know. To start the car you must:
1 - Position the shift at neutral
2 - Press brake
3 - Ignate
Tonight I have tried for 30 times and it started fine, I will try some more now. This is something I have to solve because Ford mechanics are aware of the problem since last year from the first owner and I don\'t expect them to know any better.
I have the car for 5 days now, I liked it so much and I want to solve this problem. If anybody has any clue please drop me a line. Read more
I've only had the car for 2 weeks (previously pre reg). Already in the workshop - noise from the ignition when switched to ON or START. Apparantely garage advise its coming from the EPAS system and they need to refer back to manufacturers as they don't know how to fix it.............!!!!!! Has anyone else had similar problems?

There are many different battery chargers on the market. I wonder if recharging car battery always works without needing replacement? If not, under what situation requires replacement? Read more
A usefil tip with trickle chargers is that if the charge current drops all the way to zero then the battery is probably sound, however if (even after a day or more) the charge current stays at say 0.75 Amps or more the battery is probably on the way out.
Seen on the M4 between Slough and Bracknell this evening, "1 BMW" registration plate on a 760 Li. At £80k without extras this is top of the range so was wondering to myself if this was a BMW UK car or just someone proud of his 760?
The standard 7 series is big but this long wheelbase version is huge! Read more

Am thinking of hiring a car for a couple of weeks on a touring holiday, and was wondering if it is best to arrange your own insurance or use the in-house cover offered by the major hire companies. Read more

The reason was to keep the second hand price up, and hence (customers dont like loosing a shed load) the new price up. There are so many "imports" and "cheap" cars sold new and barely second hand now that this practise of trying to devalue the import is and will fall away.
