Is there any reason to buy a Mercedes B-Class to replace my Vauxhall Meriva apart from badge prestige?

"I'm looking to replace a Meriva A and am looking at a Meriva B, which seems the best value to buy used. A Dacia Logan, which is slightly more expensive used, is cheaper to run. A Mercedes-Benz B-Class is more expensive to buy and run - but is there any reason to pay more for the Mercedes apart from badge prestige?"
The B-Class will have a much more premium interior and is better to drive than the Logan and Meriva. It depends whether you want value for money or something a bit more luxurious.

My Vauxhall Meriva has a power steering fault -what should I do?

"I have a 2009 Vauxhall Meriva 09-plate 1.4 Active with 38000 miles. The power steering fault has just started on my car and is so scary I got in touch with Vauxhall after reading about other drivers. They offered no support whatsoever - disgusting customer service - and didn't want to know at all so the onus is on me to pay for replacement. What do you suggest?"
Unfortunately your car is now more than 6 years old (actually more than 7) so no one has any liability for a fault that is actually induced by drivers holding the steering on full lock, which eventually burns out the electric power steering motor.

Which large van is best?

"I know you consider vans to be designed to last four years of hard labour but I would like to know which van you would recommend to use as a replacement for my large Ford Transit and handy Vauxhall Meriva. I would like to have just one vehicle lager than the Meriva but smaller than the LWB Transit. Comfort, economy, reliability and longevity are my main concerns. Am leaning toward a Vivaro, what would you recommend?"
A Vivaro is really a Renault Trafic which is probably the most popular van in Europe. With FWD it has an exceptionally low load floor that is a big advantage. 2.0 and 1.6 diesel engines good.

Vauxhall Meriva air con not working as it should

"The air con on my Vauxhall Meriva works okay for most of the time - producing cool/cold air - but I suspect this means it's not working at full design capacity and might need re-charging. Should this be done to avoid damage or expensive work later on, or can I just continue as is, until it stops blowing cool air?"
Yes. Happily your car will be using the inexpensive old R-134a gas so a regas should cost you between £45 and £60 providing there is no other fault with the system. readers are being quoted £250 + to regas with the new R-1234yf gas used in car a/c systems from around 2013.
