Renault Clio (2013–2019)

Model History

July 2012

Renault unveiled the fourth generation Clio

The interior gets a modern feel and user-friendliness thanks to the dashboard sculpted in the shape of an aircraft wing, the optimally-positioned multimedia system on the centre console, a wide range of colour options, a digital speedometer, comfortable seats and chrome and gloss-black trim highlights.

From launch, buyers could personalise the outside of their car with a selection of colour touches to the front grille, rear and side door inserts. To personalise the interior, the menu covers the dashboard, door panels, steering wheel, grab handles, gear lever and air vent surrounds, upholstery materials and optional floor mats. Thanks to attractively-priced option packs, buyers are able to choose the look and feel they prefer.

Available as standard from Dynamique upwards on the new Clio, Renault R-Link provides a bridge between the car and the connected world. It includes:

  • A wide seven-inch (18cm) touchscreen, intuitive voice commands and, as a market first, a home page that can be personalised by the user for safe and simple access to essential functions, without the driver having to take his or her eyes off the road.
  • TomTom connected navigation includes Live services and boasts the market’s best real-time traffic information, helping to minimise journey times and fuel consumption.
  • Among other benefits, a connection with the car’s own electronic systems permits access to an advanced eco-driving function (Driving eco²) which analyses the driver’s behaviour and provides advice to help reduce fuel consumption.
  • Thanks to the Renault R-Link Store, the automobile world’s first ever Application Store, users can easily view or download a comprehensive and varied range of apps from their car or computer (via ‘My Renault’).

All versions of New Clio are available with a sound system integrated into the front doors’ loudspeakers. Known as Renault Bass Reflex, this system delivers the volume and listening enjoyment of a 30-litre home speaker system. Bass frequencies are more powerful and the threshold of saturation and distortion is pushed much higher.

The entire Clio range features Bluetooth-equipped radios for hands-free telephone operation and audio streaming from portable music players with excellent sound quality. All radios incorporate USB and jack sockets.

The new Renault Clio combines low fuel consumption with driving pleasure thanks to a significantly updated range of petrol and diesel engines. The two petrol engines (Energy TCe 90 and TCe 120) combine very low fuel consumption and CO2 emissions with responsive performance and mid-range acceleration. The significantly improved new-generation Energy dCi engines bestow New Clio with record-breaking fuel economy for the same driving pleasure.

The new Clio is the first Renault model to feature the new three-cylinder chain-cam petrol turbocharged Energy TCe 90 engine. This is the first three-cylinder powerplant ever produced by Renault and, from launch, will provide a remarkable balance between driving pleasure and fuel economy. This three-cylinder, turbocharged 899cc unit comes with Stop&Start and delivers the performance of a normally-aspirated 1.4-litre powerplant.

It has an ultra low-inertia turbo for satisfying response from low engine speeds: 90hp and 135Nm at 2,000rpm (90 per cent of peak torque available from 1,650rpm to 5,000rpm) plus an economy-optimised version with taller gear ratios and fuel consumption of 65.7 mpg, equivalent to CO2 emissions of 99g/km. This is a 21 per cent fuel consumption and CO2 emissions saving compared to the TCe 100 it replaces

The latest addition to the Energy family is a new 90hp version of the 1.5 dCi, equipped with Stop&Start. This is a four-cylinder 1.5-litre engine with 220Nm of torque available from 1,750rpm, an increase of 20Nm over the current dCi 85. An economy-optimised version with taller gear ratios which also qualifies for the Renault eco2 signature with fuel consumption of 88 mpg, equivalent to CO2 emissions 83g/km.

The new Clio is also available with the new, dynamic chain-cam TCe 120 4-cylinder engine mated to six-speed EDC transmission (Efficient Dual Clutch), a first for Renault in the B segment.

  • A four-cylinder 1.2-litre engine with the performance of a normally-aspirated 1.6 engine,
  • Direct fuel injection and turbocharging for peak power of 120hp and 190Nm of torque from 1,750rpm.

The TCe 120 engine became available in the first half of 2013. It is among the most powerful, yet most economical, engines in its class. and feels outstandingly smooth.

Along with the availability of EDC dual clutch transmission for the dCi 90 engine in the first half of 2013, the new Clio will mark a further step in expanding access to the driving pleasure and seamless gearshifts delivered by this responsive and frugal automatic transmission.

Over and above these engineering features, New Clio offers drivers an integrated suite of efficient solutions to help them reduce their fuel consumption and CO2 emissions:

  • An ECO mode allows drivers to reduce fuel consumption by as much as 10 percent by modifying the car’s performance parameters at the push of a button.
  • A driving style monitor (green, yellow or orange) and a Gear Change Indicator (GCI) on the dashboardd help drivers improve their driving style to reduce their fuel consumption.
  • The Driving eco²app available through Renault R-Link provides drivers with a full suite of information, enabling them to analyse their driving style and take corrective measures in order to reduce their fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

June 2013

Renault Clio GT-Line pricing announced

Starting at £17,395, the Clio GT-Line sits between the TCe 90 Dynamique S MediaNav and the 200hp RenaultSport Clio. With 120hp on tap, allied to much of the hot hatch style and features from the RenaultSport, but lower running and purchase costs.

Developed by RenaultSport, the five-door Clio GT-Line TCe 120 EDC is powered by a direct-injection 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine. It comes mated exclusively to a six-speed EDC (Efficient Dual Clutch) transmission via steering column-mounted gear shift paddles.

Sport Chassis is standard, with 30% stiffer chassis, 40% stiffer dampers and specific stops. Plus R.S. Drive. which offers two driving modes: Normal and Sport. Pressing the button sharpens up the car’s responses, including engine and gearbox mapping, ESC settings, steering feeling and throttle pedal response. Selecting Sport mode shaves 30 milliseconds off the shift time of 200ms for the gearchange. It also retains the multi-changedown function of the 200 Turbo EDC, simply by holding down the downshift paddle.

The new powertrain offers up 190Nm of torque, with a top speed of 121 mph. 0-60mph is achieved in 9.6 seconds. 54.3 mpg on the combined cycle and emissions of only 120g/km CO2.

New Clio GT-Line TCe 120 EDC boasts plenty of Renaultsport’s design cues, from its grille, GT front and rear bumpers and specific rear lip spoiler, to its side sills, offset LED daytime running lights, twin chrome exhaust tailpipes and GT badging both front and rear. Rounding off its purposeful looks are 17-inch anthracite GT alloys, together with co-ordinating anthracite door mirrors and rear diffuser.

The upmarket cabin boasts dark carbon GT upholstery, matched with details picked out in chrome and gloss black. A GT leather steering wheel with badging, Renaultsport seats with additional side support, aluminium-capped pedals, steering column-mounted gearshift paddles and specific instrument backgrounds all testify to the fact that this is a pedigree, high-performance Clio. Anthracite surrounds for the air vents, gearlever gaiter, plus inserts for the gearlever and door panels also give the car an air of exclusivity.

October 2013

EDC (Efficient Dual Clutch) 'automatic' now available with 1.5 dCi 90 engine.

February 2015

GT Line Look Pack launched

Available for Dynamique MediaNav and Dynamique S MediaNav versions for a cost of £400.

The GT Line Look Pack adds GT Anthracite alloy wheels (16-inch on Dynamique MediaNav and 17-inch on Dynamique S MediaNav), GT front and rear bumpers topped with LED daytime running lights and a single chromed exhaust tailpipe. Also Anthracite door mirror casings and protective inserts on the doors, Renaultsport sill kick plates and GT Line badging included in the pack, which is available with the Glacier White, Diamond Black, Flame Red and Mercury paint choices.

The GT Line Look Pack is available on Dynamique MediaNav and Dynamique S MediaNav with the 90 hp 0.9-litre TCe and 90 hp 1.5 dCi engines.

Some interior trim details have also been changed on Dynamique MediaNav and Dynamique S MediaNav models, with or without the GT Line look pack. The interior lighting is now a more modern white rather than amber, grey replaces gloss black for the door armrests and handles, and MediaNav or R-Link inserts and air conditioning controls now have a matt chrome rather than a shiny chrome finish.

On Dynamique S MediaNav, GT Line and Renaultsport models the air vent surrounds are also in matt chrome, which has been applied to the air vent handle and gear knob of all Clios. The gear gaiter surround is now grey on Expression and Expression+ versions and gloss black on Dynamique MediaNav and Dynamique S MediaNav models, matt chrome dashboard rings become standard across the range and there is a matt chrome handbrake button and interior door handles, plus the steering wheel on models with a leather wheel rim. A rear parking camera also becomes available on the GT Line model for £250.

November 2015

Specification upgrades for Renault Clio announced

DAB radio is now standard equipment on Clios fitted with either the MediaNav or R-Link infotainment systems, meaning that all apart from entry-level versions now come with DAB as standard. DAB radio means passengers now have access to more radio stations whilst on the move. Both MediaNav and R-Link have also been upgraded, with the newly-redesigned MediaNav gaining Bluetooth™ streaming, TMC traffic information and SIRI “Eyes-Free” for compatible iPhones. The updated R-Link system has a new, clearer and more sensitive screen, allowing multi-touch gestures such as ‘pinch to zoom’.

The Clio Expression+ trim level has been renamed as Clio ‘Play’ to bring the B-segment supermini into line with its smaller city car sibling, Twingo. Meanwhile, the Dynamique S Nav gets a new-look leather steering wheel and grey upholstery.

The Clio is available in five trim levels and with a range of two petrol and one diesel efficient engines and is priced from £11,145. Despite the specification upgrades, the Clio is still available with numerous personalisation options such as the GT Line look pack, coloured 16” and 17” alloy wheels, exterior and interior coloured touch packs. Accessory packs such as the carbon-look Styling Pack, a sporty Spoiler Pack, a Protection Pack to include parking sensors and a Touring Pack with quick-release tow bar are all also still available.

November 2015

Clio Iconic 25 Nav launched

The Clio Iconic 25 Nav is available with TCe90 Stop & Start, dCi90 Stop & Start and dCi90 EDC engines. Based on the top-of-the-range Dynamique S specification, the special edition receives 17-inch ‘Desire’ alloy wheels with black inserts, chrome window sills, extra-tinted rear windows and tailgate, and distinctive cross-hatch-style wing mirror decals as standard. The decals complement the range of four stylish exterior colours on offer – Ivory, Diamond Black, Oyster Grey and Mercury.

Clio Iconic 25 Nav also receives a leather armrest and leather handbrake, matched with an aluminium gear lever. The unique black and white cross-hatch design seen on the exterior can also be found inside, with touches to the air vent surrounds and door armrest.

The Iconic 25 Nav builds on the top-of-the-range Dynamique S Nav trim which features automatic climate control with one touch quick demist function, rear electric windows and electrically adjustable, folding and heated door mirrors.

June 2016

Revised Clio unveiled

At the front, the grille which houses the Renault diamond has been redesigned, as has the lower part of the grille which is wider to add an even more modern feel to the front end. At the rear, the skirt has been redesigned for additional robustness.

Four new body colours have been added (Mars Red, Titanium Grey, Arctic White and Iron Blue), with a selection of new wheel and wheel trim designs, plus a more extensive personalisation programme.

All the upholsteries are new and special attention has been paid to the tactile and visual quality of the plastics’ grain-effect finish. The chrome trim features a more subdued, matt finish and the colours are more refined. In short, the new Clio forms a higher end package which strikes a desirable balance between seductive exterior styling and a high-quality interior finish.

The powerful, fuel-efficient 1.5 dCi 110 diesel engine mated to a six-speed manual gearbox is a new addition to the Clio, as is the availability of six-speed manual transmission for the TCe 120 petrol engine.

In addition to its reverse parking sensor, and depending on the version, the New Clio offers a front parking sensor and a reverse parking camera. Available for higher-end versions, Handsfree Parking allows the driver to fully delegate the completion of parking manoeuvres.
