Turbo failure at 100k - should the dealer pay for repairs?

I have a 2009 Hyundai i30 1.6 TDCI, which I bought from a main dealer four years ago.The car has been serviced and MoT'd by the dealer. I have complained from 50,000 miles on that the turbo is noisy and have always been told that this was nothing to worry about.

Last week, at the 100,000 mile service, I was not surprised that the car might need some repairs but I was very disappointed to be told that the turbo is finished and would need to be repaired at my cost (£1600+) as the car was now out of warranty.

I want to do a trade in on a new i30 but the dealer insists that the car's value is zero. I have bought two cars from this dealer and feel somewhat peeved at their attitude. Am I being unreasonable?

100,000 miles is a reasonable life for a turbo. A manufacturer warranty will not replace a part for a noise; only if the part actually fails. A replacement needn't cost £1600. Contact www.turbotechnics.com/
