Peugeot 307 losing power - what's the cause?

My 2005 Peugeot 307 1.6 HDI has started losing power. It starts fine, motors well too but blows grey/black smoke when increasing speed from 30-40 mph. At this point the engine feels sluggish too. Any ideas?

Probably failed turbo bearing oil seals.
