Assuming it's XUD (pre HDI).....

Disconect battery negative lead. I never do and have never recieved a shock but they recomend you do. Up to you.....

Undo the small nut that holds the electrical connections to the glowplugs. From memory it is 8mm. Do not loose these! The one behind the pump is an absolute pink fluffy dice (swearing removed - dD) to play with.

Undo the glowplugs with a 12mm long reach socket on a good rachet and use plenty of force. Again, the one behind the pump is going to be difficult. Most people leave them and just run on 3 glowplugs.

Fitting is the exact reverse. Make sure not to cross thread the plug into the cyl. head!

You can test them once out with a jump lead. Connect one end to the negative terminal and the other to the threaded part of the plug. Hold the plug in the jumplead and touch the positive terminal with the tip of the plug that is normally exposed (the bit that normally connects to the lead). It should glow white at the tip. If it doesn't glow at the tip, or just doesn't glow at all, it's dead. Don't touch the plug for about 10 minutes after because it'll be hot. Place it somewhere it won't do any damage (i.e the gound).

Or just buy them yourself and ask a garage to fit them - it's only a 30 minute job at most.

If it's HDi, it's most likely the same but I've never played with one.

Hope that helps

Halfords sell the small nuts.

I should also have said a spot of copper grease on the threads as well so they don't seize in the block.

You need a 12mm deep offset cranked ring spanner to get the one out behind the pump. Watch out for the coolant hose that comes out of the head just above this plug - it's VERY easy to break the stub off. Also for this plug, snip a piece out of the ring on the cable, and screw the nut on first, then just slip the cable in and nip the nut up - much easier.

1/2 hour......? I'm stil laughing!

More like 2 hours for your first go I'd think.

Oh, and only fit Beru plugs (available from GSF) - unless you like the job so much you want to do it again in 6 months!

Is it illogical? It must be Citroen....
