No front number plate a new trend? - Lrac

There are a number of clapped out Audi / BMWs in the area I live all driven with a complete disregard for any highway code and the front number plate on the dash board.

Is this a new trend ? has this replaced "fog lights on in broad day light"?

When did the highway code get updated to advise that after a short period of time sitting at any junction it is compulsory to just drive out into the traffic and force everyone else to give way to you?

Then there are traffic lights green go, amber go, red go as fast as possible for a few seconds.

Whilst on a bit of a roll has The MOT been updated to allow for the noisiest possible exhaust systems to now sail through with a pass especially if fitted to a quad bike?

Feel free to add anything that is missing

That’s Luton for you. :)

The one I loathe is when someone pulls out of a side junction, then stops, blocking one lane until they can pull into the othe lane. Pure self centredness.

2 miles of dual c/w near me.

Cars will take to lane 2 on joining it and stick to lane 2 all the way along even when lane 1 is totally empty, just because they want to be in lane 2 at the end to turn right at the roundabout.

Often doing 40mph when the road is 70!

Yep thats the one.

Only seen 1 missing front plate today not the usual trash, actually quite a clean 08 ( according to the rear plate). 3 series. Saw 3 yesterday.

can now add a 64 merc to that total. Wondering if its akin to trainers hanging from telephone wires or something along those lines. They can't all be dropping off.

I'll add to the grievances by saying how frustrating it is when someone in front of you slows down to allow someone to turn. If it's slow-moving traffic, fair enough, otherwise, keep going.

Almost commonplace around Greater Manchester but not just confined to old stuff. I’ve seen a Ferrari 458 spider and a Lamborghini sans front plates this week so far. Plenty of performance Audi’s and BMW’s similarly unadorned.

I suspect they drop their suspension and wipe off the front number plate on sleeping policeman.

Yup, black Audi A3 passes me every morning with front plate on dash.
Been like it for at least 6months.
Kid behind the wheel always driving like a maniac on the same piece of country road.

Could be. My theory is they remove them to avoid detection by cameras / CCTV.

No front number plate a new trend? - Manatee

They are definitely removing them, either in the hope of foiling front-facing cameras or because it's 'cool'.

Understandably not a priority for the police but if they don't start nicking people for it, it will only increase.

They've probably seen cars in US films often don't have front plates. It confuses me when I rent a car in the USA - I barely know what the make/model is and go looking for a plate.

It may also be useful for parking in all those camera-supervised public car parks. Bikes haven't had a front plate for many years.

This.

I'm always one for being a generous driver and I'll always slow down to allow someone to turn - if there aren't too many cars too close behind me. ESPECIALLY during peak traffic times.

Fair enough if it's slow moving traffic though.

Maybe a trend, or maybe accidental. I've owned many cars and until fairly recently the number plates were always screwed on.

In the last few years they're nearly all stuck on with sticky pads (all second hand cars) so I wonder if the dealer trend of sticky tape makes them easier to drop off? Its not like they're going to last well in our damp/frosty climate!

Tongue in cheek.......................

Was'nt there a couple caught on film on Sat evening last in a blue e type with a false number plate and driving off without seat belts?

One law for the mighty one for the poor?

Probability must conclude that apart from a VERY tiny proportion of cases, it's deliberate.

I, unfortunately, have frequently to drive within Bradford, Keighley, Nelson, Burnley, Blackburn...
I see very numerous cars like this.

Of course if the police DID stop them, the plea would always be "Yeah just found it fallen off this mornin innit boss, an ampt ad time to get new screws yet innit" and it would be difficult for the police to prove otherwise at that moment.

I suggest police cars go equipped with a rivet gun or extreme superglue, so they can very firmly re-affix the plate for the hapless owner, and record the registration on a database to say it had been found in this condition, for any future reference. Would only take a few minutes.

Then there are the plates with the illegal character spacing, or even curly italic fonts.
Drives me nuts: Why do they think they can so blatantly stick two fingers up at the law of the land?

That can only work if the missing plate is in the vehicle somewhere, or plod can make up a new one instantly?

Unless the car is spotlessly clean I would be fairly obvious that it hadn’t fallen off this morning.
Squashed flies, grime and even stone chips!

The missing plate is normally atop the dashboard - this is exactly the supposed get-out that allows the driver to claim that "it only just fell off a few hours ago, honest, officer."

Because they can

I saw a parked Micra with the front plate on the dash top yesterday and said to myself "that must genuinely just have fallen off, surely no self-rspecting Barry boy would start with a Micra"

Then as I passed it I noticed the Carlos Fandango wheels and the roof spoiler.

A bit further on was an old, lowered, black BMW 3xx with the front plate in the window. It's definiitely a craze.

It's definiitely a craze.

Call it a craze if you like, but I bet it's primarily an attempt to defeat the average-speed cameras which are springing up all over the place. Will they read a plate atop the fascia ?

I thought they were rear-facing now as they couldn't identify motorbikes
