What's the best used SUV 4x4 for reliability and performance? 29 Nov 2019 (Ask HJ)

Large reliable car for under 5k 24 Jan 2017 (Forum)
The Colt can only handle myself plus two passengers and gear. I'm thinking Mondeo or C Max, but my last four cars have been Japanese and have all been great - Colt, Civic, Integra and Primera. I might consider a larger car (7 seater), but I guess my budget's a bit low. I might also consider a smaller car, as long as it has good leg room in the back and can accommodate a roof box. -

Mazda MX5 Mark 3 - Mazda MX5 Mark 3 with bike racks and tow bars 23 Oct 2015 (Forum)
I consider a car to be a bike accessory - we often carry 2 to 7 bikes - clearly 2 would be the max in a 2 seater car !! Have a 7 seater 3.5 V6 that carries 7 bikes no sweat. It is legal to tie bikes onto any car with a few straps of canvas. In the USA the MX5 MK3 can be fitted with a tow bar for towing. -
Oil Use - Nissan Primera 19 Oct 2015 (Forum)
I have a 98 2.0 Nissan Primera which seems to be using a lot of oil. I has gone from max on the dipstick to min in just under 2000 miles. I average about 500 miles of mainly motorway driving a week. The car has a Nissan Approved warranty and when they looked at it they said they could find nothing obvious and filled it up and told me to check it after a 1000 miles. -
Rover 25 1.6 2003 lpg - Lpg vs petrol consumption help 24 Jun 2014 (Forum)
I noticed that the mileage I am getting is approximately 160-170 miles per 32 litres lpg tank doing city driving. Does this sound right given the car is 50 litres max petrol tank and I get 340 miles doing city driving on full petrol tank. This means per litre petrol tank I would be getting 200 miles approximately. Ignoring the cost of petrol and LPG , does this sound right and how does it compare to a deisel car in terms of fuel efficiency? -

Skoda Fabia - 02 Fabia Brake Lights & Other Electrics 29 Apr 2013 (Forum)
3) As well as the above, for some time the radio volume has been "sticky". Sometimes no sound until the volume control is turned up to max. Sometimes only one speaker, sometimes the other. Any ideas? We're unwilling to recycle it after paying out for the engine and it's useful as a local runabout. -

Kia Sportage 2006 CRDI - Odd coolant leak 15 Nov 2012 (Forum)
I've been keeping an eye on it and I've noticed the following: - The cap seems to work, as when you release it you get some pressure release (much less when fully cold) - When the engine is running and hot, I can't see any coolant leaking - An hour or so later, there is a little bit of coolant showing in the overflow pipe, and if you take off the expansion tank cap you can see coolant around the seal. - The tank level is at the Min when cold, and roughly halfway between Min and Max when hot - When the engine is cold, I squeezed the coolant pipe going into the thermostat housing and it wasn't hard - so the system isn't remaining pressurised (cylinder head gasket?) The car runs and warms up normally, and the heating is working fine - theres no sign of water in the oil, or oil in the water - anyone got any ideas! -

Nissan Primera 2.2TD P12 - ABS and Engine lights on 31 May 2012 (Forum)
Though it feels like more of a cut out than actual braking. When this happens, the speed drops to about 40 max and then gradually fades out to nothing until I am able to stop and turn off the ignition then start up again. I am hoping the 2 faults are related but would really appreciate any advice or help on what could be causing this and how much it is likely to cost me. -
Private insurance as a trader 9 Feb 2012 (Forum)
I'm only going to be buying and selling 1 or 2 cars at a time until April while I build up some capital, but I don't want to register each in my name and wait 2-3 weeks for the new V5 to come through before I can sell it, so if I register the car to my business (i.e filling out the little slip that says you're selling it to a trader and therefore the car is still in the previous owner's name), can I still add the car to my personal policy for a day or week? Thanks in advance, Max. -
not applicable - Private Parking Charge 22 Nov 2011 (Forum)
NB: I went back and had a look at the site and there is a sign at the entrance - I did not notice it when parking - it does clearly say max stay 3 hours/free car parking, it only details that a parking charge will be issued if fail to comply in very small writing at bottom of sign. -
Vauxhall Corsa - '08 Corsa CDTi - 52,000 miles, no oil change! 22 Apr 2011 (Forum)
I'm suprised its still going really; it's a testament to how it's probably a pretty strong engine despite recommended changes being what, every 10k max! -
Morris Mini 1962 - Dynamo 24 Nov 2010 (Forum)
At the wekend I connected the car up to a battery charger again to test the lights. When I connected it up, the needle on the charger went to max and a murmering sound started coming from the dynamo. The red light on the dash was bright even though the key was in the 'off' position. When I turned the key to 'on' the ignition light went out! -
Skoda Octavia - Low Oil Level Warning 10 Nov 2010 (Forum)
About 1/2 way up the top black spheroidal thing. I expected the handbook to say something like 1l oil between min and max but no. The black dipstick has been giving dodgy readings -it is difficult to get consistent readings. I hope the engine is not burning oil excessively and there are no signs of leaks. Only 16months old and done 23,000 miles. -
Citroen Xsara (1997 - 2004) - 98 1.8 No heat in a climate control model 30 Jan 2010 (Forum)
This mixer flap is controlled by a stepper motor, could it have failed. Also our fan does work on several speeds but when it is turned to max the engine temp gauge rises even though the engine temp isn't. I checked the block temp with a laser thermometer. When the fan is switched off the engine temp immediately drops to it's usual temp of 90.
