Honda Jazz/Civic / Nissan Note - Need a car, but 2nd market scares me. 31 Aug 2014 (Forum)
Hi, I'm looking for a cheap - max. £3000 small family car after our Nissan Almera Tino got wrecked. I want a smaller car now. I'm quite keen on a Honda Jazz / Civic or a Nissan Note, but not knowing much about cars I find the whole 2nd hand market a minefield to be honest. -
Renault Megane (1996 - 1998) - 1998 Scenic 1.9DTi F9Q, where is pre-heat relay ? 14 May 2013 (Forum)
I have a 1998 Megane Scenic 1.9dti and a while ago, on the way to work, the temp gauge went crazy and stuck on max. Checked it over before going into work for the day and it all seemed fine, thought it must have been a dodgy gauge/sender. That evening, totally flat battery. RAC man came and eventually got enough juice into the battery to start it but it was draining continually. -
Bums on Seats 3 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Volvo XC90 & V70, Mercedes E Class Estate, BMW 5 Series Touring, VW Passat Estate. I'm working to a budget of £18k max and in light of the number of messy children would have leather seating as a prerequisite to help the cleaning-up process. Thanks in advance for any assistance...... -
Skoda Fabia 2 (2007 - ) - Engine oil - factory underfill? 22 Jun 2009 (Forum)
- Yes sir, definitely. So accept the car - drive home 40 miles - stick to own running in rules (under 55mph - 3000 rpm max) - everthing fine. Sat morning, now 150 miles on the clock, on a whim decide to check the engine oil level (cold before first start) . WHAT? ENGINE OIL BELOW MINIMUM MARK! - actually on the bottom bend situated about 5mm below the hatched area (the area the oil should be in) Several careful rechecks later, i.e. level ground, engine cold then warm, stood few a minutes etc. - the same result. -

Recommend me a cheap convertible... 7 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Much as I would like a Merc Pagoda SL, cheap and cheerful is the order of the day. So, I fancy getting another cheap soft-top, up to a max of four thousand pounds, perhaps cheaper. I've tried a few contenders out already. I had a go in a friend's MG TF and thoroghly enjoyed it. I thought it was very snug and fitted my small(ish) frame well. -
Honda Civic UK (1995 - 2000) - 99 1.4 Bolt to access the cambelt can't be undone 20 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Now my car had already done 75,000 miles when I first got it and I have done another 1000 totaling to 76,000miles (recommended change is 72,000 miles max) and I can't seem to find out whether the Cam belt has been changed by the previous owner. Can I assume that since the bolt is so tightly screwed- that it must have been opened for a Cam belt change previously? -
Main Dealer first service experience 5 May 2007 (Forum)
My C-Max went in for its first service yesterday, at the main dealer where I originally bought the car. A nice aspect of the service was the fact they collected the car and dropped it off for me, which saved loads of hassle, but considering it's basically a glorified oil and filter change, the cost was a somewhat high £140. -
Replacement car for my dad 9 Mar 2007 (Forum)
However we would have a strict budget as I will have to pay for the car as a gift, I am thinking £600-£700 max. So what medium sized car could you get for that? I am thinking a newer Escort like a W reg or maybe a bland japmobile. Idealy we would need to spend less than £200 a year on fixing it and the car will need to last 2 years minumum. -
Help needed.....bought a write off!! 20 Oct 2006 (Forum)
I phoned HPI and they are now telling me that their records indicate this car was a write off indeed. I am in the process of pursing compensation (only a miserly £2000 max). What I am curious to know is: 1. Could a number change have masked the car's history? 2. It there a situation where a vehicle's accident history could be held back or put on record belatedly? i.e. could the seller have manipulated this? -
Subaru, Seat or Skoda ? 24 Sep 2006 (Forum)
After a spot of unexpected bad health, the business is now sold, and the VW will most likely be having a mid life transformation into a camper! I have a max of £8k to spend...buying privately or via the auctions, and want reliability, a blend of handling & performance, all in a hatch or estate body. I would equally be happy to spend £1k on a decent Primera GT! -
Nissan Tino 2.2 DCI 2004 17 Aug 2006 (Forum)
It has done 25K miles and until now has been trouble free.I start the car after a week of non use and after driving 2 miles it loses power with a max speed of 35mph. This happens intermittantly for two days then I get a EMU warning saying there is a problem. I take the car to the local dealer who has serviced it twice and he says the airfilter was dirty , despite it having been changed on the services. -
Golf Mk III GTi 16v Cam Belt Failure 15 Oct 2003 (Forum)
The car was taken to an AA Service Centre who advised me that it would cost £800 to £1000, but couldn't be more precise without spending £200 to take the top off the engine and check the damage. I contacted a local VW dealer to see what their estimate would be - they said a max of 8 hrs labour (@ 50 ph) plus £200 for parts - total of £600. However, another VW dealer has quoted anywhere from £800 to £1500 depending on the severity of the damage! I'm likely to take the £600 quote, but a little worried as to why it is so low compared with the others - are they being overly optimistic or might the damage be fairly minimal? -
Oil but not filter changed 17 Jun 2003 (Forum)
I was in a hurry and "didn't have time" to stick my head under the bonnet and inspect their handiwork until I returned home last night. Upon doing so, oil looks fine, filled up to max level. However, i have a sneaking suspicion that the filter has not been changed, due to the markings I remember on the old one, although it's possible they've replaced the filter with the exact same make. -
Puzzling Passat equation 29 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Fully comp insurance with legal cover cost me £327. It's from Churchill and they were willing to take into account max. no claims on the company insurance after a letter from the company. Clearly, this is a hell of a price which leaves me pretty much depreciation-proofed. My conumdrum is this: the 20V's economy was never brilliant even when my commute was purely motorways, and recently (with a short urban commute) it's dropped to around 28-30mpg. -
Xantia Estate 22 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Its actually quite nice, but.... What's the method with this suspension thingy ? I assume that I shouldn't use max or min height. However, there are two other settings in the middle. When should I use one or the other ? Can I change it while driving along, or do I have to stop to alter it ? Why doesn't it have one of those keypad thingies like my sister's does ? -
