Driving examiners plan to strike over driving test changes 20 Nov 2017 (News)
Over 2000 driving examiners are planning a walkout on the day that the new driving test is introduced over concerns about changes in working conditions and the way the test is carried out. The Public and Commercial Service (PCS) union has warned thousands of driving tests could be cancelled when its members take part in the walkout, due to take place on the 4 - 5 December. -

Calls for motorway training to be added to driving test 11 Mar 2011 (News)
Motorway training should be integrated into the driving test to help improve the general standard of driving, according to the Driving Instructors Association which also wants the current Pass Plus scheme integrated into the driving test syllabus. The DIA is the UK's largest body representing professional driver trainers and says those applying for a driving test should only be allowed to do so once instructors are confident that candidates have sufficient experience of driving on all the types of road they will encounter when they have a full licence. -

Surge in number of children disqualified from driving 23 Jul 2018 (News)
The DVLA figures were obtained under a Freedom of Information request and show that 242 children were found guilty of dangerous or reckless driving in the UK, while a further 178 were convicted of careless driving. 434 arrested in Scotland as part of Festive Drink Drive campaign 8 Jun 2015 (News)
The campaign was launched in response to a survey which found that one in four drivers in Scotland were unaware that drink driving results in a criminal record, with offences remaining on record for 20 years or more. Its aim was to raise awareness of drink driving laws. During one week alone 107 motorists were found to be over the drink drive limit, with a further 13 found to be unit to drive through the effect of drink or drugs. -

The Association of British Insurers (ABI), has suggested a zero-tolerance drink drive limit for drivers under the age of 25 , as well as for them to be banned from driving at night, in an effort to reduce accidents in the most at-risk group.
