How would a high torque/lowish power car feel? 28 Feb 2009 (Forum)
A hypothetical question here for the techies. I remember back in the mid 90s a supercharged Mazda 626 Diesel that only had 70 bhp but quite high torque. So let's imagine a car with say 90 BHP from 2-2.5 litres but with say 280 lb ft of torque. What would it feel like on the road? I'm not that technical but would be interesting to read your views. -
National pride or what ? 15 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I was standing there having my pre-arbeit morning stogie when it sort of came to me that almost all the cars lined up in the car park were German made. In the row I could see and count there were 32 assorted Mercs, BMWs, Audis and VWs. One lonely Mazda. Probably says a lot about why they still have a car industry.......... -
Looking for car hire advice. 8 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I'm planning holidays in Edinburgh with my Mrs and she wants us to hire a car even though I've no problem with driving my Mazda 323 TD to and from Edinburgh. I'm looking for a small hatch (Focus Astra size) diesel but all the websites I've visited seem to offer only petrol cars or at least this is what they've advertised! I've never hired a car on my own so would really appreciate any advise possible. -
Ford Fusion (2002 - 2008) - 04 1.25 No oil seal on rear hubs 18 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Hi, I've got a Mazda 2 which I think is based on the fusion. I took the rear drums off a few days ago and was surprised to find that there were no oil seals fitted. It looks like one of the bearings is leaking a bit of grease and this may end up on the pads. -

Focus Auto v Astra Auto 12 Jul 2007 (Forum)
I was looking at the Focus 1.6 auto with the 4 speed auto gearbox, wondered if anyone had any experiences of these, probably 2001 models. I think the Zetec engine was designed by Yamaha plus the auto box is a Mazda design so it sounds a winning combination. The alternative is the Astra 1.6 8 valve with auto box - plenty of these around but I suspect they are less nippy than the Focus and have heard of problems with the auto box selector switch. -
Used (56) Getz 1.4gsi target price 7 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Just got back from a test drive of a 56 plate Getz with about 5k on the clock. The wife thought it was a nice little car and it certainly seems an improvement... -
Almera: Fair price? 6 Jan 2007 (Forum)
This is on the basis that we can use this as a family car and I can do my mid-life crisis thing!!' It's at a Mazda main dealer. O2 reg, 1.5 'Hurricane' (not sure which model it's based on), 26'000m, FSH, 5dr, excellent condition. It's up for £4495 which seems a tad expensive. Prices on autotrader are all over the place. -
Dog delight 9 Dec 2006 (Forum)
We intend buying new, and are looking for a small to medium car between 1200 and 11600cc. So far the only thing we've found to fit the bill is the Mazda 2 which has a rear sill just 18 inches high, six inches lower than many of the alternatives. Are there others? Suggestions much appreciated.. -

Whilst some of the more common Japanese manufactures eg toyota, mazda, honda, lexus, are well known for their reliability what are the other less common Japanese models eg Daihatsu and Suzuki like for reliability??? say in comparrison with the more common Japanese manufactures I was also hearing that Korien models are much improved - i had been told many years ago they were only good for 3-5 years do modern korien cars offer decent reliability??? -

Choosing an automatic Family Vehicle 20 Feb 2024 (Forum)
My wishes are: automatic, reliability, fuel efficient, nice interior and not too boring to drive. So far my short list includes: Mazda CX 5 (2020/2021 model), Peugeot 2008 (2024) and Skoda Kamiq (2024). Would love to have your feedback and if you can think of anything else, I would love to hear! -

Kia Sportage - Another over designed car. Where's good design? 18 Jun 2021 (Forum)
https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/news/new-cars/2021-06/revealed-all-new-2021-kia-sportage-get-dramatic-redesign/ The current one, like ORB's has always looked bang on to me, and more classy than an Eyoke. Where has simple good design gone to? Mazda seem to get it right, although the 3's C-pillar is on the slab/van thickness side. -
Good car buyers? 19 Dec 2019 (Forum)
Where is a good place to go to ask knowledgable people for pros/cons of different cars? I want a used small/crossover SUV and had almost settled on a Mazda CX-5 but they don't do petrol auto (that I can find in my 14k budget). Doing mostly short stop/start journeys I've ruled it out over the dpf thing. Now looking at Rav4 and Qashquai. Looking for decent size SUV (not huge), economical but wit a little bit of zip and good handling.... -
15k - Best Estate 27 Apr 2015 (Forum)
After having the pleasure of owning an A3 for 7 years I want something of a good build quality but also a big boot. Looking around a Mazda 6, Audi A6, Passsat and Octavia seem the options. I do about 12k a year - so either a petrol or diesel is an option. Open to comments and suggestions! Thanks, -
