Nissan Almera 1.6SLX 3 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Can any one help on this: a while back I asked some questions on the board to try to work out what car to get. We want an automatic but I dont want a particularly big car. We decided on a Nissan Almera. Now I'm thinking, how fuel efficient are these? We dont do a huge amount of driving, no more than 40 miles a week, what does the SLX mean? -
Traffic counters 20 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Not important but one of those things I've wondered about. You know those automatic traffic counters the councils use, box at the side of the road, two rubber tubes across the road. Tyres crossing the tubes presumably cause some sort of counter to operate. When the tubes go all the way across the road, how do they sort out how many vehicles have gone in which direction, or don't they bother? -
Delaying tactics? 17 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Surely, if a car has been suffering the same problems for some time and the dealer has failed to resolve them within the warranty period, why should not the warranty be automatically extended to cover any associated repairs undertaken until the fault is found/fixed? -
94 Supra TT a good buy? 11 Aug 2004 (Forum)
I have the opportunity of buying a uk spec Supra turbo automatic. The car is a 94 with 100k on the clock but has been maintained to a high standard by an enthusiast. Am I barking mad even considering such a car I really dont want to end up with a money pit. At present Im running a yaris for running to work and an 1100 virago for weekend blasts. -
BMW 323 - loud scraping noise at revs 23 Dec 2003 (Forum)
I drive a 1997 323i Automatic. Recently, on returning from a 250 mile round trip i noticed a scraping noise coming from the front of the car. I assumed the under tray had come off and was dragging on the road; however this was not the case. -
Choke ? Vauxhall Astra (Expression) 1.4 25 Nov 2003 (Forum)
I've just bought a Vauxhall Astra (Expression) 1.4 litre hatchback H reg. It has 120,000 miles on the clock. The engine runs really well. However... the automatic choke does not work. When starting the car I need to keep my foot on the accellerator until the engine warms up to stop the engine from cutting out. Has anyone experienced similar problems with the CHOKE not working on Vauxhall's Astra range? -
Citroen AX poor cold starting 1 Nov 2003 (Forum)
He has started it without fail first time every hour all day today but knows that it wont start properly in the morning. Is there an automatic choke on these? Can anyone offer any other possibilities please? -
The future of motoring... 13 Aug 2003 (Forum)
I see in yesterday's Observer that HMG is considering compulsory tracking devices for all cars, ostensibly for congestion charging, but also to allow wholesale surveillance and automatic speeding charges (naturally, because it's "the biggest single cause of death on the roads"). The next extension to this is speed limiting, where "you won't be able to go faster than the limit, no matter how hard you press the pedal". -
rover 214 si 1996/97 16 May 2003 (Forum)
I'm in desperate need for a radiator for a rover 214 96/97 model (bubble shape) What I need to know is can any other radiator be adapted to fit as I can get a radiator for a 216 automatic but need to know if it can fit or be made to fit first. If not any ideas where i can get a cheap one I tried all my local breakers to no avail. Also need a bonnet and the front slam panel ideally in dark blue anyone who can help please!!!!!!!!!!! -
Expired endorsements 22 Feb 2003 (Forum)
The DVLA leaflet INS115 states that the fee for exchanging a paper licence for a photocard licence (which you have to do anyway when you change addresses) is £18, and the fee for the removal of expired endorsements is also £18. If I exchanged my paper licence for a photocard, would the removal of an expired SP30 be automatic and be included in the £18 fee for the licence, or would I have to separately request removal of the endorsement and pay an additional £18 for this (dubious) privilege ? Is there any disadvantage to having an expired endorsement on your licence, and is it worth £18 to get it removed ? -
Ancient autobox problem 20 Jan 2003 (Forum)
The owner tells me it has only started doing this recently. I would guess that this is an absolutely conventional, old fashioned automatic transmission, so does anyone have any suggestions as to the likely cause? Richard Hall http://bangernomics.tripod.com -
Aeriel install 24 Sep 2002 (Forum)
Some very kind person snapped off SWMBO's aeriel on her Golf MkIII. I am now thinking of putting in one that goes up and down automatically. How easy are these to install or should a pro do it? My local car hifi people said that it would be about £140 + VAT fitted and the local VW dealer said £20 + half an hour labour totalling about £50! -
more about carjacking etc 8 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Following on my previous posts about extras we didn't know we needed, and the hefty coverage of mobile/handbag theft etc in DT of late, I have to say that our Scenic has one feature which I think is a quite a good wheeze (sorry about that, HJ). When you reach approx 5mph the doors lock automatically, only openable from the inside. Obviously a problem if someone needs to get you out in a hurry, but on balance ...? Not a luxury motor, so I wonder if many others have it. -
Bleeding diesel 26 Aug 2001 (Forum)
In the handbook for my Vectra 2.0DTi it gives instructions for restarting the car if the tank has become completely empty. For the X1.7DT diesel engine it goes on to say it can be restarted by automatically bleeding the fuel system by use of the starter motor. For the X20 DTL engine however it says. "Never let tank become empty!!" "On account of the very high injection pressure a complicated procedure is required to bleed the system, this must be carried out by a Vauxhall Dealership". -
passenger airbag 14 Jul 2001 (Forum)
I need to carry children in the front passenger seat and am looking for a car that has the airbag as either an optional extra or as a switch that I can turn off. I also need the car to be automatic and to have three diagonal belts in the back. I was due to collect a new scenic in three days but the dealer is refusing to disconnect the airbag even though it will mean he will now lose a sale. -
Cavalier Elec Windows 28 Jun 2001 (Forum)
I'm quite handy at electrical diagnostics, so i'm after a quick pointer in the right direction please, to save me from stripping the whole electrics out. I think some models had automatic closing on the deadlock, but I don't think mine has this. If it does, it hasn't worked since I've had the car. Thanks, Mike -
CVT gearboxes, are they really that bad? 7 Feb 2017 (Forum)
Simon PS, i am aware than honest johns test of the yaris describes the automatic in glowing terms, but nobody else does! -
What I eventually bought 3 Aug 2015 (Forum)
The Qashqai+2 was very familiar as I had a 5 seater Qashqai for 3 years before buying my automatic Skoda when a shoulder injury stopped me changing gear. It is an ex motability car with 57000 miles on the clock but has full main dealer history as motability cars have to be returned to the main dealer for everything. -

Toyota yaris 2011 - suggestions on a bigger car 5 Jan 2023 (Forum)
I am looking to get a bigger car,I have a 9 mo th old baby, two dogs and my Toyota Yaris a 2011 plate is doing very well for its age, under miles at 38,000,no issues and in great condition its just quite small.Am looking to get something bigger, something reliable, safe, an automatic would be a dream,I do not do many miles so a petrol would be fine.I will be trading my Yaris in and getting a loan for the rest but was hoping for something under £12,000 if possible.By suggestions?
