  my misses Vauxhall Astra 2000 reg has no heat from the heater there is a known head gasket issue, which we have put some steel seal in, and now the water level does not go down in expansion bottle when I put the steel seal and ran for 30 mins, I pretty sure I did not see the temperature needle move that much, if at all  our local garage just keeps blaming it all on the head gasket in other cars I have had it has been the mechanical stat stuck ?

  I plan to use one of these piggy-back fuse holders and fit to an accessory type fuse, intereor lights or heated mirrors or something. Dose this sound like a plan or am I likley to hit any problems?  Ive done a lot of things like this in the past but never on a car with canbus and such fancy electronics.
• Vauxhall Insignia Sports Tourer - Thermostat Faulty? 23 Feb 2017 (Forum)
  My local garage suggested a fan control ECU needed replacing but I was not sure if their diagnostic kit could tell the differnce between the thermostat or ECU fault. I am considering taking the car to Vauxhall for diagniostic checks but in the meantime I checked the resistance across the terminals on the thermostat. I measured 230kOhms which seems high but I am not 100% sure what the connections are - possibly a heating element.

  I see the Fiesta looks quite easy but the access hatch isn't on the Fusion (that I can see). I suspect it might need access from inside the car which will entail pulling the dash apart. All advice greatly apreciated. NEM

  does anyone have any pearls of wisdom for removing the mirror glass from a 308 with power folding / heated mirrors? the nearside mirror has stopped folding now, depsite hearing clicks from inside the mirror when both locking and unlocking the car i'd like to look inside the mirror for any obvious looseness etc before commiting to replacing it or anything more scary like that but can't quite see how to unclip the mirror glass base from the movement inside. i don't really want to trash the whole thing just to look!

  Hi Ive had a rattle in my car for about a year. I had it MOT'd and he said it was the aircon pump.  The air con is still working as is the heat so im hoping the pump hasnt gone completely as i want to sell it and dont fancy spending loads of money on it beforehand.

  However I have had two blow in the last four years (last one repaired Dec 2007) and today it has gone for a 3rd time (although the car is not over heating, I have white smoke coming out of the exhaust and a distinct lack of power) Is this normal ?? I thought a head gasket, once done, would last for years!? Is it something I am doing ??

  In recent years I have purchased all my cars with aircon. With advice from HJ and others I run the aircon on a regular basis, even in winter. Usually for de-misting. And run it on full heat to supposedly kill off bugs/bacteria etc. To eradicate the pungent aroma that occurs from time to time, I have tried two shop bought aerosols to kill off any bugs and get the ventilation smelling more sweetly.

  This car is the older shape Focus. Mileage is 59K The exhaust rattles at tickover and is getting worse. The idle speed is 750rpm with a tiny bit of fluctuation. Recently it has had a genuine Ford(Fomoco) coil pack and leads.

  well the the weather is quite cold now and only after a short trip I noticed that the engine fan was coming on, way to early... then it goes off again, it seems to me that the fan is coming on and not letting the car heat up enough, then going off again... but not all the time.. what are the tests for this I can cary out? Thank you

  Took it out after and it was still fine. Can anyone tell me where else water could get into the heating system, as the passenger floor was wet today. Is it possible for water to come up under the pollen filter/housing? I went through a puddle on the left side of the car, and that's the only thing I can think of that could cause it.

  Now I dont think my car has an auxiliary heater, but is it supposed to have the supplimentary heater which I believe is elecrically powered ? This is supposed to be automatic when the climate control is set to AUTO. If so I have detected no evidence of such a heater during the current spell of cold weather.

  Something is certainly vibrating at a certain engine speed. It did not sound like a rattle caused by exhaust heat shields. Any suggestions would be of help, I will carry out a visual check first for obvious issues such as engine under tray.
• electric problems in 95 cavalier 6 May 2004 (Forum)
  Cavalier 1.7TD 1995, approx middle March this year the battery went flat for no apparent reason. A jump start got me going again. The battery charged fine from the engine. Since then the rear heated window hasn't worked (fuse is fine, i haven't checked the module yet)and the alternator light is now on continuously. I have used the car since during days and nights and the battery seems to be getting a charge.

  I have a Mk5 Fiesta on a W plate, when the car is cold the heater is cold, driving along the heater get warm then warmer, but all this is with the control turned to cold. If i want heat and turn the dial to fully hot, i gets hot, but when i turn it back to cold, it stays hot, even after a few miles.

  Here's a conundrum for you: Vectra 1.8 Elegance's with heated leather seats, climate control, ESP + traction control, metallic - ie £2550 of optios on top of a £16380 list price car = £18930 at list prices Although imported from Cyprus and badged up as Opel Vectras, these are brand new.
