Sale Of Goods Act 8 Jun 2006 (Forum)
It has been in and out of the garage for the last three years with mostly minor repairs - but a few major. All of these have been covered by the 3 year warranty which runs out this month. The car has been in and out of the garage so much in the last 3 years that i have lost touch of the number of times that i have take it to the garage. Not what i would expect from a premium value car at a premium price. -
Louise Goodman - oh dear 8 Jun 2006 (Forum)
All going well and Ms Goodman showed she had an interest in cars until she said something along the lines of - 'modern cars don't need looking at between services anyway'. Really? If I'd taken this advice my car would have run out of oil months before it's first service. The extended interval on the A2 meant it needed new front tyres before it was serviced! -
What to do 8 May 2006 (Forum)
The car will soon be due for MOT, tax and insurance and although it's in reasonable condition for year, I'm reluctant to spend the best part of £50 to get it through a test only to be able to sell it for less than £100 (and the chances are it will need a bit of work at least). I'm therefore tempted to simply scrap it which seems a shame because it runs well and is reasonable for year. I know it's a fairly simple choice between spending and selling or scrapping but I'm just interested to hear what others might suggest. Thanks Catcher -
Air Leak? Vectra 2.0 (1997) 28 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Vectra 2.0 GLS 1997 16v petrol.Could a Intake Manifold air leak cause all four of my plugs to 'soot' up? Got a low revs miss on the over-run which is proving difficult to fix.Its killed 2 used Lambders and I'm now onto a brand new one.Everything Electrical has been replaced as has the ICV No mil light comes on (except when the O2 sensors have given up)! -
Lowlives and softops 10 Apr 2006 (Forum)
It looks like the person who did it managed to get himself between the car and the hedge it was parked against, then did it. Just to add to her problems, the tear runs through a seam and down onto the side panel of the roof. I'm hoping she won't need a new roof, but she may do. Does anyone know of a good repairer in the West Devon/East Cornwall area, and are there processes for repairing these as opposed to removing whole panels, or replacing the roof? -
Corsa Warm Start Problem 29 Mar 2006 (Forum)
The car will struggle to start and probably will not unless given a lot of gas, the engine sounds like it is going to turn over but struggles to and when it eventually does (sometimes 3 or 4 goes)it runs like a dream. It is possible to get it to start on the first go if you get it right with the gas but even then you can hear it struggling. This does not happen all the time, but its getting increasingly more frequent recently. -
Down on the farm 23 Mar 2006 (Forum)
A recent episode showed the main farmer (an ecology minded downsizer) converting his Citroen van to run on neat Veg oil. Nothing new there, even if he seemed pleased with himself to have discovered a way to save the earth, but I noticed that during and after the show there was no mention of the need to pay tax on the Veg oil used. -
Anyone heard of this company? 22 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I have been told I can collect the car from a particular authorised Toyota dealer.Has anyone used this company, and if so, did everything run smoothly? Anyone have any ideas how they can sell at this price? Could they have been damaged in delivery etc. Look forward to your responses. -
This mileage obsession 21 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Its all frills and no substance. If its an older car the questions should be 'whats the bodywork like ? How does it run ? Any starting problems ? condition of tyres ? ...Or is that too sensible ? Your thoughts would be appreciated. Cheers. -
mondeo diesel failing to start 20 Mar 2006 (Forum)
My son has a three year old Mondeo diesel estate which occasionally fails to fire - normally, but not always, when it a been run that day already. After two or three failed attempts it will start perfectly. The firm he bought it from have checked the glowplug relay and changed the glowplugs, but this hasn't helped. They cannot find any fault on it and it behaves itself whilst in their hands. -
Using forecourt Jet Washes 19 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Ideally I'd like to cover the car in foam, then rub it down with a mitt and wipe the alloys. Then, wash off with clean water but I don't want to run out of time!!! What sort of programs do they have? Local ones to me are Tesco and BP. Cheers for any help. -
Audi A4 Starting Problem 18 Mar 2006 (Forum)
When the fault occurs, the only way to solve it is continued cranking until (after several flat batteries) the engine splutters into life. Apart from this sporadic problem the engine runs quietly and without problems. Please any ideas, suggestions???? Cheers Chris -
Very Low Mileage Insurance 26 Feb 2006 (Forum)
However, I only drove it around 4000 miles last year and expect to do a similar mileage in the next 12 months, so insuring it for 10,000 miles seems silly. So I asked my insurers to run a quote with the reduced mileage. This represented a saving of £3! Yes £3! OK, I know that £281 isn't a lot, but I was hoping to save much more by reducing the mileage. I'm going to try a few of the 4x4 specialist brokers. -
dealer liability? 22 Feb 2006 (Forum)
hi sister hasjust bought a '96 mgf 1.8 vvc from a dealer in deleted . the car was sold with 3 months warrenty and in working condition excluding a few faults( slight hood damage, paint chip run of the mill stuff). the other day at work she picked up a puncture and took the wheel in for repair, whilst there she was informed the tyre and the rest on the car were below legal limit and would need changing. reading through some trading standards info i beleive the garage have a legal responsibility to sell the car in a roadworthy condition? -
Funny "BONG" noise from my Focus 31 Jan 2006 (Forum)
{This was originally posted in Technical Matters, but looking at some of the replies, it would be better suited to the discussion forum. DD} I've just been out on my customary lunch run to the pie shop and noticed a strange thing in the car. I backed out of the drive, started moving off and heard a really loud "BONG" noise. By bong I mean an electronic chime type noise. Only did it once and the car drove ok for the 5 minutes I was in it. -
Advice needed please... 30 Jan 2006 (Forum)
So all in all about £3000 worth of work - for a car that I don't think is worth that. So I can't get the MOT until at least £1700 is spent on it and the tax runs out tomorrow. Would I be able to sell/PX it on without MOT/TAX? Any ideas on what I should do? Thanks. Tez. -
Polo 1.2S Driving Impressions 23 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I was more impressed by the hill climbing ability of this version than the 1.4FSI I had last year.Gear change and steering very positive. Only gripe is a too high (non-adjustable) drivers seat. Looking forward to the run back across the Cat and Fiddle (if the temperature gets a above freezing that is). -- I wasna fu but just had plenty. -

Peugeot 306 1.4 electrics gone crazy! 8 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Last night the radio kept on cutting out, then the headlights flickered, instruments went from 0 to full scale but the engine kept on running fine. Then it cut out and eventually restarted. This morning it would not start. Now it will. I am going to see it tomorrow. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I should start looking. My first thought was the dash earth, does this make sense and where is it? -
HELP! Peugeot 306 or Vauxhall astra??? 4 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Whilst the 306 is lovely to drive, we do a couple long journeys a year in it, and we could use more space. I've no doubt that the 306 could go on running indefinately, it's a 1999 reg and only on 44k at the moment. the astra is at 33k. What do you think i should do? Oh and the astra is priced at £4995. unsure what i'd get for the 306 for part ex.
