Anyone else watch this programme on Discovery Real Time?. A recent episode showed the main farmer (an ecology minded downsizer) converting his Citroen van to run on neat Veg oil. Nothing new there, even if he seemed pleased with himself to have discovered a way to save the earth, but I noticed that during and after the show there was no mention of the need to pay tax on the Veg oil used.

There was no disclaimer stating that the van was only to be used on the farm as it is road registered and you do see them driving it off the farm.

Just wondered if the producers of the show a) realized that not paying duty on the veg oil was illegal and b) would they have any responsibility if someone watched the show, used veg oil and got caught naming the show as the source of their information.

Is there tax on vegetable oil? Oh, only when it deprives the government of revenue from another source!

A very interesting book called Reefer Madness by Eric Schlosser touches on the subject where marijuana and pornography laws overly punish those involved in lieu of taxes the government is unable to legitimately raise for themselves.

This isn't stealing, it's recycling!

Veg oil is further taxed if used a motor vehicle fuel sourced when on public roadways. Sorry if I wasn't clear in the original post.

Sure I did, I was always proud of my imaginative essays. What that has to do with the programme I mentioned and my comments about it, well, I have no clue.
