BMW 530DSE AUTO - automatic gearbox whine 10 Oct 2015 (Forum)
THE NOISE STOPS WHEN I LIFT OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND IS NOT PRESENT AT HIGHER SPEEDS. SHOULD I CHANGE THE GEARBOX OIL AND FILTER? BMW SAY THEY ARE SEALED FOR LIFE BUT IN LAST WEEKEND'S DAILY TELEGRAPH YOU ADVISED SOMEONE WITH A DIFFERENT MAKE OF CAR TO CHANGE THE GEARBOX OIL TO CURE A SIMILAR WHINE. IF I DO NOTHING WILL THE GEARBOX BE LIKELY TO FAIL? -
BMW 530d 2004 reg - Active Cruse Control 30 Jul 2013 (Forum)
I have been quoted circa £2500 by a BMW main dealer for the replacement of the ACC ( after charging £120 for 20mins for telling me why my cruse control was not working ) . This was two years ago and have learned to live without Cruse Control for that period but am keen to get the feature working again. -
BMW 3 Series GT - Did SAAB have it right all along 27 Mar 2013 (Forum)
It just struck me as ironic though that Saab went chaing the 4 door compact exec market and lost out badly and now companies like BMW will making handsome profits on cars of a similar design concept to the 1998 Saab 900 / 93. I know they are long gone but would they have survived if they stayed true to their design principles ? -

BMW X5, Mercedes ML, Porsche Cayenne - 4x4s with no DPF? 18 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Diesel obviously offers some MPG and residual value advantages, but the risk of turbo and injector issues along with the dreaded DPF clogging. Does anyone know when BMW X5, Mercedes ML, Porsche Cayenne etc got DPFs. Will there be someearlier years that did not get this technological "advance"? Any suggestions appreciated along with views on which makes the best used buy. -

BMW 3-Series E46 Compact (2001 - ) - 2002 2.0 Cam Sensor 3 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Aparently this problem is "well known". Can anyone enlighten me? I expect it to be pricey - the car has been BMW serviced from new. Is it worth asking for "contribution" ?! My wife says, at 50k miles, it's time she had a 320CI......... What a way to start retirement!! -
'BMW syndrome' amongst HGV Drivers? 10 Jan 2008 (Forum)
The recent (very informative) thread on HGV gearboxes has reminded me to ask a question which has had me wondering..... Does an equivalent "BMW syndrome" exist in trucking circles? I use the term without any particular prejudice towards drivers of the marque , but I hope it's understood what I mean. For instance, would a trucker say, "just look at that - typical Eddie Stobart/Norbert Dentressangle driver!!" -
BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - 320iSE (2.2) excessive oil consumption 9 Oct 2007 (Forum)
My 2001, 116k mile, 320iSE is currently using oil at the rate of 1 litre every 500 miles and has been doing so for the past 10k miles. Seems a bit excessive to me? What could be causing this and do I need to worry? It's always had BMW main dealer service from new. I intend to keep the car for a little while longer yet, so any advice appreciated. -

BMW 316 - Air filter change 6 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Hi, Hope some can help with this - i am a complete novice with cars. i just had my MOT done and had some repairs done (BMW 316 1994). On the receipt it says 'air filter'. I assumed this meant they had changed my air filter. However, after going in my boot in a box there seems to be a brand new air filter. My question is - where abouts in the car is this supposed to go so i can check that one is actually there. -
Key problems on '00 BMW 7 Series 20 Aug 2006 (Forum)
My father in law has just been charged over a hundred pounds for a new key for his BMW. The problem was the gradual inability of the key to lock/unlock the car remotely, which to me pointed to a new battery. The dealer simply ordered him a new key. I managed to get the old one apart just before he left today, but the battery didn't want to come out easily before he had to go. -

Matching Tyres BMW (E39) 5 series 4 Feb 2006 (Forum)
BMW recommend that all four tyres are the same make and tread pattern due to possibility of messing up the antiskid software/ ABS otherwise. I can see that in an ideal world thats what you'd do but I have 6mm left on my fronts and the rears need changing.
