'BMW syndrome' amongst HGV Drivers? - OldSock
The recent (very informative) thread on HGV gearboxes has reminded me to ask a question which has had me wondering.....

Does an equivalent "BMW syndrome" exist in trucking circles? I use the term without any particular prejudice towards drivers of the marque, but I hope it's understood what I mean.

For instance, would a trucker say, "just look at that - typical Eddie Stobart/Norbert Dentressangle driver!!" or "there's another tailgating (HGV) Volvo driver!"?. Or maybe refusing to let a MAN driver out at a junction on general principle?

Don't think it hapens like in cars but....

You will often find rhd lorries helping other rhd pull out at junctions and on motorways etc in preference to lhd (foreigners!).

Happens a lot on continent too where you often find 2 or 3 british trucks travelling together (more for presumed company rather than actual company?).

But you also fnd a lot of lhd travelling together over here (for same reasons?)

I dont think it applies to vehicle marques though.

I never noticed it when I was driving but I DID have a preference for driving Volvos or Scanias.

DAFs are a bit boring looking. Perhaps they are a poor relation.

In my Land Rovering days a lot of Land Rover owners were totally dismissive of other 4x4s as rubbish. But we had a sobering moment once at a trial when a Land Rover got stuck in wet mud in a gateway only for a Fiesta to drive through afterwards with just a bit of wheelspin!

I have always had the situation where my loads are on show (Cars) In the times when I have driven a truck it's always a talking point amongst drivers. We have two covered wagons which look like normal box trucks and I was recently in Clacket Lane services with the wagon and I had to re arrange the load - big mistake out come 6 Aston Martins in front of a boys school coach !!

I could have been there for days... I do think there is a thing with Scania's it or rather was envy but now a bit like cars there all the same

OldSock said ''typical Eddie Stobart/Norbert Dentressangle driver!''

We would say ''typical Stobbie or Nobby Dressingtable driver!!''

Most of the time I find myself saying typical Tipper Driver though.
